Marisla Foundation — Marine Resources and Toxic Chemicals
The Marisla Foundation makes grants to projects that promote the conservation of biological diversity and advance sustainable ecosystem management in North America, Mexico, Hawaii, Chile, and the Western Pacific. The Foundation also supports the search for solutions to health and environmental threats caused by toxic chemicals. One Day’s Wages — Matching Grants
One Day’s Wages is a grassroots movement to alleviate extreme global poverty. Matching grants require partners to raise a portion of the grant funds, which are then matched by One Day’s Wages dollar for dollar. Matching grant requests from first-time partners is US$5,000 – US$30 thousand. Projects must fit within one or more of ODW’s focus areas, which include Climate Impact, and Water & Sanitation, among others. Applicants must be a registered non-governmental nonprofit organization. Partnership for Forests — Innovative Partnerships in Forestry
Partnership for Forests promotes partnerships among governments, civil society, and private enterprises to address deforestation and improve livelihoods by investing in forests and sustainable land use in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. The program provides a combination of grants and technical assistance to help selected partnerships move towards commercial scale-up. Grants normally range from £10 thousand to £1 million. Applicants should provide matched funding of at least 25%. New Zealand Aid Program — Collaborate Pacific Fund
Collaborate Pacific aims to support effective governance, leadership, regional cooperation, and sustainable development in the Pacific. The fund supports small-scale activities in thematic priority areas: Agriculture, Climate Change, Oceans and Fisheries, Renewable Energy, and many other development priorities. Funding can cover travel (including transport, accommodation, and meals) and event costs (including hosting costs). Rainforest Journalism Fund — Global Audience Rainforest Journalism Fund
The Global Audience Rainforest Journalism Fund makes grants to journalists reporting for wide-reaching major news media outlets on tropical rainforests in any part of the world. The projects could focus on tropical forests’ role in the overall climate equation and weather patterns, and the consequences for human life and living conditions caused by deforestation. Most awards fall in the range of US$5 thousand to US$15 thousand, but depending on project specifics may be higher. Proposals are welcome on a rolling basis. GrowthAfrica supports African businesses and entrepreneurs through an annual accelerator program. Participants of the program receive individualized and tailored in-company support, access to potential investors, leadership training and mentorship. Entrepreneurs in the fields of Agribusiness, Renewable Energy, and Water & Sanitation are especially welcome. The program is open to entrepreneurs from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Ghana. U.S. National Science Foundation — Arctic Research Opportunities
The National Science Foundation (NSF) invites investigators at U.S. organizations to submit proposals to conduct research about the Arctic region. Research proposals should advance the understanding of the Arctic’s rapidly changing natural environment, social and cultural systems, and improve the capacity to project future change. The Arctic Sciences Section maintains Arctic logistical infrastructure and field support capabilities that are available to enable research. Explorers Club — Discovery Expedition Grants
The Explorers Club offers expedition grants to field researchers. Grants can be used to cover fieldwork in biological sciences, archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, earth sciences, ecology, and astronomy. Grants support researchers and explorers from around the world and generally range from US$25 thousand to US$40 thousand. (Note: Grant recipients must provide first right of refusal to cover their expedition, and will have access to Discovery Channel’s global audience through their digital and television programing.) India Department of Science and Technology — Science Collaboration, India with ASEAN
The ASEAN-India Science and Technology Development Fund supports projects of 2-3 years between research institutions in India and collaborating institutions in the ASEAN countries. Areas of focus include environmental management, climate change adaptation and mitigation, agricultural technologies, alternative energy, biodiversity, and several others. The funds support mobility of researchers from India to partnering ASEAN institutions and vice versa, as well as some supplementary expenditures. Applications must be prepared jointly by the Indian and ASEAN partner scientists, and must be submitted to India’s DST and the ASEAN Secretariat simultaneously.
