The course is predominantly aimed at young academics, professionals, managers, and other interested individuals — especially from developing countries. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation makes grants to solve social and environmental problems in the USA and internationally. The Foundation’s grant making for its environmental sub-program in Climate and Energy makes grants to strengthen global climate policy. The Foundation also funds improvements in transportation to reduce air pollution — focusing on China, India, Europe, and the United States. Most of Hewlett’s grants are by invitation. The Bestseller Foundation provides financial support for sustainable agriculture, sustainable jobs and entrepreneurship, and environment and nature conservation in China, Africa and India. BirdsCaribbean — Hurricane Relief Fund
The BirdsCaribbean Hurricane Relief Fund accepts applications for birds and habitat recovery. The fund aims to advance the recovery and ongoing conservation of birds and their habitats on islands affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria and assist conservationists working on these islands regain capacity lost in the hurricane and necessary to undertake recovery and conservation projects. The Hurricane Relief Fund is positioned to support small projects with up to US$5 thousand. Larger grants of up to US$10 thousand may be considered in exceptional cases. Eligible islands are Dominica, Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Eustatius, St. Barts, St. Kitts, Saba, St Martin/Sint Maarten, British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Cuba. The Big Give is an online crowd funding platform of charitable projects in thematic areas that include environment and animals, emergencies and development, and several others. Donors view the project profiles and make funding contributions through an online process. Triodos Bank focuses on financial support for sustainable “green” organizations in sectors such as agriculture and energy. The Triodos Foundation focuses on grassroots projects in organic agriculture, food, biodiversity, animal welfare, holistic education (including music and theatre as a means of learning). All grant recipients are non-profit organizations based in the Netherlands which may work in collaboration with partners in developing countries.
