Microsoft invests in initiatives to accelerate technology development and deployment of new climate innovations through equity and debt capital. Microsoft focuses on areas such as direct carbon removal, digital optimization, advanced energy systems, industrial materials, circular economy, water technologies, sustainable agriculture, and business strategies for nature-based markets. Curt Bergfors Foundation — Food Planet Prize

The Food Planet Prize seeks ideas that could solve the dilemma of feeding a growing population on a warming planet. The prize awards two initiatives with €2 million each to speed up their product, project, or program. Nominees can be individuals, groups, organizations or businesses. Melania Development Foundation — Support to Grassroots Womens’ Groups

Melania focuses on self-help projects that contribute to the improvement of the social, economic, and cultural position of women in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. Projects have to focus on income-generating activities, which may include agriculture (e.g., chicken farming, beekeeping, aquaculture, etc.) and several others. Melania invites and reviews project applications. Melania selects and proposes some of these projects to Dutch women’s groups for requested financial support. There is no calendar deadline. Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean — Shipboard Fellowship 2024

The Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO) offers several shipboard fellowship opportunities. This fellowship program aims to promote training and capacity building leading towards a global observation scheme for the oceans. Eligibility extends to early career scientists, technicians, PhD and MSc students, and Post-doctoral Fellows involved in oceanographic work at centers in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. Selected candidates will receive subsidies to visit the host institution and to go on the cruise, as well as training on seafaring medical and sea survival. Applications can be submitted anytime. Energy Foundation — China Sustainable Energy Program

The Foundation’s China Sustainable Energy Program makes grants for planning, policies, research, and training to improve energy efficiency and to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions in China. Grant eligibility extends to organizations in China and the USA. They include research institutes and foundations; universities; professional organizations, societies, and academies; energy technology centers; policy groups and think tanks; state-owned energy companies; regulatory agencies; and NGOs. Heritage Management Organization — Small Grants for African Heritage Projects

The Heritage Management Organization (HERITΛGE) funds projects that focus on the protection of and/or promotion of local heritage for socio-economic development in Africa. Small grants of up to US$50 thousand are made to organizations, groups, and individuals. Projects should have a long-lasting impact and benefit local people. Potential examples are protecting heritage sites from desertification by creating green belts, especially where such green areas can increase biodiversity, bring benefits to local agriculture, and encourage tourism. Foundation for the Third Millennium — Sustainability Program

The Foundation for the Third Millennium offers funds to projects that promote environmental protection and health, social justice, and economic independence in balanced proportions. Applications should focus on combining ecological, social, and economic aspects. The Foundation gives preference to organizations based in Switzerland and in neighboring European countries, but may also accept grant seekers from Eastern Europe or worldwide. Rainforest Action Network — Climate Action Fund

The Climate Action Fund makes small grants to community groups that are active in preventing the extraction of fossil fuels, and in preventing or decommissioning large point sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Grants can be made in all regions, but the Fund’s geographic priority areas are South and North America. Grants generally do not exceed US$2,500. Applications can be submitted at any time. Indo-German Science & Technology Center — Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research

The Indo-German Science & Technology Center (IGSTC) invites applications from women researchers in India/Germany to participate and collaborate in an ongoing Research and Development project. Women researchers and entrepreneurs holding a regular position in academic research institutions in India and Germany may apply. The grant will cover basic project assistance. The maximum grant for three years will be up to €48 thousand. Applications can be submitted throughout the year. Link to WISER

World Land Trust — Land Purchase for Conservation

The Trust provides funding for the initial acquisition of land that has conservation importance. It also funds additional activities related to protection, biodiversity monitoring, education, outreach, habitat restoration, and species reintroduction. The Trust works with legally registered and experienced conservation NGOs based in developing countries.
