U.S. Department of State — Countering Wildlife Trafficking in Central Africa

The U.S. government seeks to reduce the ability of criminal groups to profit from poaching and trafficking of protected animals and their body parts originating in or transiting Central Africa. Proposed projects should be designed to strengthen the capacity of wildlife-related institutions and actors in Angola, Chad, Cameroon, Congo (Brazzaville), Congo (Kinshasa), Nigeria, Guinea, and Gabon. The total funding amount is not to exceed US$2.8 million. Eligibility for funding extends to US and foreign based non-profit organizations and educational institutions. U.S. Department of State — Countering Wildlife Trafficking Through Canine Detection

The goal of this program is to improve and increase abilities to interdict illegal wildlife products in Africa through the use of canine detection. Projects must enhance and operate wildlife detection dog programs at key transit points in Africa to interdict illegal wildlife products. Organizations wishing to apply to this NOFO must have a proven track record of creating and running successful detection dog programs. The total funding amount is not to exceed US$1 million. National Geographic Society — Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Geographic priorities include known hot spots that contribute most to the ocean plastic pollution problem. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components. The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will engage students and other citizen scientists in activities to address real world problems and lead to actions in science and conservation. Applicants should design and/or implement tools that support citizen science work, particularly data collection or data analysis. Applicants may request up to US$30 thousand. U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation — Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund 2019

The Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund supports efforts to increase the population numbers of monarch butterflies in North America (USA, Mexico, Canada). The priority is projects in the eastern population’s migratory flyway. Proposals are also invited for projects in the western USA, Canada, and Mexico. Grants are up to two years in length, and will generally range from US$50 thousand to US$300 thousand. The funding is available for activities that fall within the areas of habitat restoration and improvement. The program requires matching funds of at least 1:1. U.S. Department of State — Building Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Between Africa and Asia

The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals to improve cooperation between governments in Africa and Asia to combat wildlife trafficking and implement joint action to dismantle the transnational networks that perpetrate these crimes. The project budget must fall between US$500 thousand and US$950 thousand. Eligible organizations include U.S. and overseas based non-profit organizations (NGOs) or educational institutions. John Ball Zoological Society — Wildlife Conservation 2019

The John Ball Zoological Society makes grants to conserve wild animals and their habitats; to improve the management of captive animals; and to develop education programs related to these objectives. Most funded projects are in developing countries. The principal investigator can be of any nationality and must be associated with a recognized institution (accredited zoo, academic institution, conservation or non-profit organization). Purley Overseas Trust — Grassroots Development

The Purley Overseas Trust aims to address the problems of deprivation in the developing world by supporting grassroots projects which allow people to help themselves. The Trust makes grants for small-scale projects across a range of interests that include agriculture, water supply, energy, and others. Grant recipients are development-oriented charities in the UK and internationally. There is no limit on grant size, but most grants are in the range of £200 to £1,000. Unleash — Innovation Lab 2019

Unleash invites young experts from all around the world to participate in the 2019 Innovation Lab in Shenzhen (Nov 2019) to create real, scalable solutions towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Teams will explore real-life challenges within the SDG themes, before defining specific problems and coming up with solutions. The top teams will present their solutions to investors and experts. The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Guyana. The priorities include one on environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management.
