Australian Government — Australian Aid: Friendship Grants 2018/19

The Australian Aid: Friendship Grants program supports organisations from across Australia and provides funding for aid activities in the Indo-Pacific. Eligible Australian community organisations are encouraged to apply for funding of AUD30-60 thousand in three annual grant rounds. The grants will fund development activities that strengthen an overseas community’s capacity or socio-economic situation and improve the lives of poor and vulnerable people. IUCN National Committee of The Netherlands — Finance for Climate Action in Tanzania

The Mobilising More (MoMo) Challenge seeks ideas for climate mitigation or adaptation in Tanzania that have the potential to attract private investors. The winner will receive €25 thousand to strengthen and scale up their business idea. Proposals are invited from companies and non-governmental organizations. United States Agency for International Development — Senegal Fisheries, Biodiversity & Livelihoods

USAID seeks applications for a Cooperative Agreement from qualified entities to implement the “USAID/Senegal Feed the Future Fisheries, Biodiversity & Livelihoods (FBL)” Activity. The purpose of the five-year Feed the Future Senegal Fisheries Biodiversity and Livelihoods Activity is to improve management of fisheries for ecological sustainability. USAID intends to provide US$15 million in total funding over a five year period. U.S. and non-U.S. organizations are eligible to apply. European Partnership for Responsible Minerals — Responsible Mining

The international coalition of the EPRM is designed to improve conditions in and around mines and for the miners concerned in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. Projects should aim to improve the social, humanitarian, and environmental aspects of mining. Applicants may be companies, knowledge institutions, public or semi-public bodies, or NGOs in any combination and registered in any country. The maximum grant for a project is €340 thousand. U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — Saltonstall-Kennedy Grants for Fisheries 2019

The Saltonstall-Kennedy program funds projects that address the needs of fishing communities, and that build and maintain sustainable fisheries. The focus areas in 2019 are marine aquaculture; adapting to environmental changes and other long-term impacts in the marine ecosystem; fisheries promotion, development, and marketing. The program is open to applicants in the USA, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Palau — with priority for applications from the fishing community, and that involve fishing community cooperation and participation. Grants will range from US$25 thousand to US$300 thousand for two years. The deadline for pre-proposals is 05 November 2018. More information

U.S. Department of State — Illegally Harvested Timber and Forest Products in Global Trade

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for mapping and analysis of illegally harvested timber and forest products in global trade. The results aim to influence policy makers and will enable the implementation of future interventions to assist developing countries in combating illegal logging. The cooperative agreement of up to US$492 thousand will be awarded for 24 months. Eligibility is limited to non-profit organizations and educational institutions. U.S. Department of State — YSEALI Regional Workshop: Eco & Sustainable Tourism

The U.S. Embassy Vientiane invites applications from organizations to carry out a five-day workshop in Laos on sustainable eco-tourism for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). The workshop will focus on building theoretical and practical knowledge about responsible, sustainable and ecofriendly tourism in Southeast Asia and explore different approaches on how to promote small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism industry. Candidates can apply for US$250 thousand and should outline their potential to implement an eco-tourism project in their community that generates sustainable income in their local community. Australian Government — Direct Aid Program Africa

The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2018/2019. DAP supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of agriculture; water and sanitation; environment/conservation; and others. The High Commission accepts project proposals from Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Gambia, Niger and Nigeria. Funding of up to AUD60 thousand is available to community groups, NGOs, private sector entities, academic institutions, or other organisations engaged in development activities on a not-for-profit basis. European Commission — Ending Drought Emergencies

The European Commission seeks applications to address drought resilience and sustainable livelihoods through promotion of climate resilient and nutrition sensitive agriculture interventions in Kenya. A total grant of € 4.5 million can be requested under this call. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations from Europe of Africa. Siemens Stiftung — Empowering People Award 2019

Siemens Stiftung sponsors the “empowering people. Award” as a means to identify and showcase relatively simple and smart technological solutions that have business potential to combat poverty in developing and emerging countries. The categories include water and waste water; energy; food and agriculture; waste management; and several others. The products or solutions to be submitted have to already be in use. The competition is open to any individual, team, organization, or enterprise from any region in the world. The top three prizes are €50 thousand, €30 thousand, and €20 thousand, respectively. The contest offers 7 additional awards of €10 thousand each. The deadline for submissions is 31 October 2018. Find the Award
