The Conservation Fund makes grants for wildlife conservation, research, and education. Applications are accepted from non-profit organizations, government entities, and schools and universities in the USA and other countries. Most grants are under US$50 thousand. European Commission — Agricultural Growth in Zimbabwe

The EC announces funding to strengthen Zimbabwe’s agricultural research, education, and extension services. The lead applicant must be a nonprofit organization established in Zimbabwe; in countries eligible under the European Development Fund; in a member state of the European Union; or a contracting party to the agreement on the European Economic Areas. International Network for Government Science Advice — Research in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals

The International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) is offering six professional development and research grants for 2018-2019 on the role of scientific evidence and advice in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Grants of up to to €15 thousand per project will support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners on this theme in eligible low- and middle-income countries. Applicants must hold a PhD at time of application, or have at least five years full-time equivalent experience in research or as a public policy professional (e.g. advice, analysis, implementation, evaluation). U.S. Agency for International Development — Sustainable Fisheries in the Philippines

USAID/Manila announces a 5-year program called “Fish Right” to enhance the sustainable use and resilience of coastal and marine resources that provide food, livelihoods, and coastal protection to communities in the Philippines. Fish Right will focus on marine key biodiversity areas, with special attention on “wild” or capture fisheries and the communities that depend on them. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs in the USA and Philippines; for-profit NGOs willing to forego their fees; private voluntary organizations; universities; foundations; consortiums; and international organizations. Climate Technology Initiative — Women’s Energy Projects in West Africa

The Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN), in partnership with other organizations, invites applications to facilitate the initiation and management of commercially viable energy projects by women entrepreneurs in West Africa. At least 10 projects or businesses will receive coaching support from experienced professionals for the development of a financially, socially, and environmentally sustainable business plan. Islamic Development Bank — Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development

The IDB Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development draws international attention to the vital role women play in developing their communities and the world. The theme for the 1439H – 2018 Prize is “Women’s Contribution to Promoting Peace and Stability.” (Note: This could possibly include thematic areas important in the Terra Viva Grants Directory.) The Prize consists of two cash awards: US$50 thousand for a woman or a group of women; and US$100 thousand for an organization. Eligibility extends to women engaged in activities and /or residing in one of the IDB member countries, or in a Muslim community in non-member countries. India Department of Science & Technology  — Indo-Hungarian Joint Research

The Indian Department of Science & Technology (DST) calls for proposals for joint research projects between India and Hungary. Grants are to promote collaborative projects between at least one Indian and one Hungarian scientist. Themes are energy and water; biotechnology; and others.  Proposals must be submitted in English. Governments of Austria and India — Scientific Exchange Visits

Austria’s Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) and India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) invite applications for fully-funded exchange visits to carry out joint research. The call is open to all scientific disciplines and thematic areas — including environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, and veterinary medicine. Projects will be supported for a maximum of two years. It is up to the applicants to find their own research partners. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Sustainable Agriculture for Sub-Saharan Africa

The BBSRC calls for collaborative proposals to address research challenges of sustainable agricultural systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. This call encourages integrated partnerships between researchers in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa. Applications must not exceed a maximum of £2 million for projects up to three years. Scottish Government — International Development Small Grants 2018

The Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme provides project funding in support of the government’s International Development Policy. Applications for grants are invited from incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £200 thousand. Project grants should focus on any of Malawi, Rwanda, or Zambia in themes of food security; renewable energy; climate change; water; and others. Grants for capacity building and feasibility studies will be accepted in relation to any country designated as medium/low on the UN’s Human Development Index — but with priority for Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia. Awards are a maximum of £60 thousand for project grants over three years, or a maximum of £10 thousand for feasibility and capacity building grants over one year. The application deadline is 13 November 2017. About the small grants
