World Academy of Sciences — Fellowships for Research and Advanced Training

TWAS offers fellowships to young scientists in developing countries to enable them to spend three to 12 months at a research institution in a developing country other than their own. The purpose of these fellowships is to enhance the research capacity of promising scientists and to foster links for further collaboration. Costs are shared between TWAS and the host institutions. The fellowships are for research and advanced training. There is no age limit. However, preference is given to young scientists at the beginning of their research career and those working in Least Developed Countries. The deadline to apply is 03 October 2022. TWAS Fellowship

Africa Platform of Ghent University Association — Short Stay Research Fellowships

The Africa Platform of Ghent University Association (GAP) welcomes applications for visiting fellows to facilitate and foster academic collaboration between Ghent University Association and academic institutions in Africa. Awardees will spend a minimum period of two weeks at Ghent University or one of the associated University Colleges. The fellowship consists of a grant of €1000, plus one return flight ticket, for a minimum stay of two weeks. The fellowships are aimed at researchers (junior or senior lecturers & professors) who are affiliated with an African higher education or research institution. World Academy of Sciences — Visiting Expert Programme

The TWAS Visiting Expert Programme supports visits of internationally renowned scientists to research institutions located in developing countries, especially least-developed countries. Only persons who have attained international recognition in their fields of science will be considered for support. Nominations of women are particularly welcome. Applications are made jointly by the host institution in the developing country and the visiting expert. The deadline for applications is 03 October 2022. Link to TWAS

Fondation Segré supports on-the-ground conservation actions with the goal of improving the status of threatened animal species (terrestrial, freshwater and marine) and their habitats across Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East. Research Support Grants have a maximum grant size of €5 thousand to support young and early scientists in their research to improve knowledge on threatened species and their role in natural ecosystems. Projects must focus on Lizards, Snakes, or Worm Lizards. Eligibility extends to local or national non-profit organizations. Applicants can submit applications in English or French. Women for Africa Foundation — Research Fellowships in Spain

The Women for Africa Foundation has launched the 8th Edition of its “Science by Women” program. The program aims to promote African women’s leadership in scientific research and technology transfer, and to foster the capacity of the research centers in their home countries. Thematic areas include sustainable agriculture and food security, water, energy and climate change; and several others. Each Spanish Centres of Excellence will host one senior woman researcher for a six-month fellowship. Eligibility to apply extends to women who are nationals of any African country, and who have a PhD, with at least three years of postdoctoral experience. Journalism Fund — Grants for Environmental Journalism

This Enabling Services Grants for Environmental Journalism supports enabling activities and supporting services for environmental investigative journalism as a whole. The program provides funding to project ideas from organizations and institutions for training and professional development programs. Eligible proposals entail enabling activities and supporting services for environmental investigative journalism in Europe. The total available amount to be distributed among all supported projects will be around €85 thousand. The program is open to legal entities with demonstrable expertise in investigative journalism. Australian Center for International Agricultural Research — Pacific Agriculture Scholarships

The Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) supports postgraduate research study by providing scholarships in agriculture and fisheries at the University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University. Students undertake applied agricultural research at selected Pacific universities to build an agricultural innovation system and contribute to the agricultural research capacity of the student, the university and the country of origin. Applicants must be a citizen of and currently reside in Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu. The closing date for submissions is 19 October 2022. Worldwide Universities Network — Research Development Fund

The WUN Research Development Fund (RDF) provides grants of up to £10 thousand for one year to foster research collaborations among academic staff (faculty) at WUN member universities. Applications are open to researchers from WUN member institutions. The RDF supports research projects that fall under the network’s principal research theme of sustainable development. The closing date is 24 October 2022. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation — Georg Forster Research Award

The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People’s Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. Nominations for the Award must be submitted by an established academic employed by a university or research institution in Germany. The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2022. Find out more
