ETH Zurich — Faculty Exchange Grants

ETH for Development (ETH4D) provides grants for visiting scientists who belong to academic institutions in low and lower-middle-income countries. The visiting scientist may visit ETH Zurich to conduct a short research stay or to attend a conference or workshop organized by ETH Zurich scientists. The grant covers expenses up to a maximum of CHF 10 thousand. The main applicant has to be a senior scientist or professor of ETH Zurich and invite colleagues from lower-income countries. ETH Zurich — Research to Action Grants

ETH for Development (ETH4D) supports ETH bachelor students, master students, doctoral candidates, post-docs, and senior scientists to develop prototypes. The grant sum is up to CHF 5 thousand. Preference is given to activities in lower-middle-income countries with direct involvement of collaborating institutions or agencies from said countries. Climate and Clean Air Coalition — Innovation Projects in the Agriculture Sector

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition launches a call for proposals seeking solutions to pressing challenges for short-lived climate pollutant mitigation in the agriculture sector. Projects submitted should advance innovative approaches and technologies to improve mitigation action in a developing region, country, or state. The call is open to non-profit entities, including government agencies. The deadline to submit a project concept note is 30 April 2024. Link

World Academy of Sciences — MENA Research Cooperation with Germany

The TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Program invites postdoctoral researchers in the MENA region to make cooperation visits to institutes in Germany. The visits are limited to three months, with the aim of promoting longer-term collaboration. The German Research Foundation will cover travel expenses and provide subsistence costs for the stay in Germany. Preference is given to young PhD-level scientists, particularly women. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Malawi

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives supports small-scale, high-impact projects in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Malawi. The priorities under this call include women’s economic rights (which can include agriculture), environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management. The average contribution is C$35 thousand to C$50 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. F5 — Tech for Good Impact Grants

F5 provides Tech for Good Impact Grants and in-kind donations to help nonprofits update the technological resources they need to address the effects climate change has upon people of color and/or marginalized racial or ethnic communities. The size of the Tech for Good grants is US$50 thousand. Grant funding is open to non-profits in all countries. Applicants must address issues related to environmental justice, such as (but not limited to) climate change mitigation/resilience, hazardous or toxic waste, biodiversity, or environmental education. Pulitzer Center — Ocean Reporting Network

The Pulitzer Center accepts applications for the Ocean Reporting Network (ORN). The network will establish a collaborative ecosystem of journalists around the world to uncover the harmful and illegal practices of the fishing and extractive industries, and systemic threats to marine biodiversity and coastal communities. The Pulitzer Center will cover a reporter’s salary and provide additional support for the media outlet that employs the journalist. Pulitzer Center — Impact Seed Fund

Impact Seed Funding (ISF) is a micro-scale grant provided by the Pulitzer Center to support education activities to enrich the perspectives and knowledge of the university community— specifically students and educators—about the problems, solutions, and innovations related to the impact of human activities in tropical forests, ocean, and the climate crisis. ISF grants range from US$2,000 to US$4,000. Applicants should be professors or researchers in a higher education institution, or groups of students guided by a responsible professor, and not have the project applied in Africa, Brazil, or Southeast Asia. Microsoft — Climate Innovation Fund

Microsoft invests in initiatives to accelerate technology development and deployment of new climate innovations through equity and debt capital. Microsoft focuses on areas such as direct carbon removal, digital optimization, advanced energy systems, industrial materials, circular economy, water technologies, sustainable agriculture, and business strategies for nature-based markets.
