Climate Technology Initiative — Funding for Climate or Clean Energy Projects

The Climate Technology Initiative (CTI PFAN) provides funding to climate or clean energy projects. PFAN accepts applications for projects in low- and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean Islands. Projects may request between US$1 million and US$50 million. Projects providing energy access or rural electrification (clean cookstoves, solar home systems, mini-grids) may request smaller sums between US$500 thousand and US$50 million. Proposals are invited from companies, individuals, or legal persons; public-private partnerships; and entities that are legally structured to redistribute profits. Applications can be submitted anytime and are evaluated quarterly. Details

Campus France — Research in the Maghreb 2025

Partenariats Hubert Curien (PHC) du Maghreb supports research cooperation between France and Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia on renewable energy, environment and health, and other development topics. Each project can request up to €27 thousand per year. The announcement includes contact information for each participating country. The closing date for applications is 28 February 2024. Institute of International Education — Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowships

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program offers short-term fellowships to African-born academics at universities in the USA and Canada to collaborate with African universities in research, curriculum co-development, and/or graduate student training. Project requests to host scholars are submitted by universities and other higher education institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. Past scholars in the program have included several in agriculture, environment, and related disciplines. Scholar applications must be submitted before 04 March 2024. Link

UK Royal Society — International Exchanges 2024

The Royal Society’s International Exchanges Scheme makes grants to scientists based in the UK who seek new international collaborations. The scheme covers all areas of life and physical sciences, except clinical medicine. Applicants may request up to £12 thousand for travel to/from all countries outside the UK. InsuResilience Solutions Fund — Climate Risk Insurance Products

InsuResilience Solutions Fund (ISF) seeks projects with a holistic approach to disaster relief and preparedness. The Fund will support the development of new climate risk insurance products or the scaling-up of already existing products to increase the resilience of poor and vulnerable people in developing countries to climate change. The ISF provides grant-based co-funding of up to €2.5 million but requires matching the grant funding (in-kind and/or as a financial contribution). Eligibility extends to private and public organizations located in Asia and the Pacific, Africa, and Latin America. The application deadline is 05 April 2024. More information

Tinker Foundation — Sustainable Resource Management in Latin America

Tinker’s program of Institutional Grants supports the theme of sustainable resource management (among others) in Latin America. Particular issues of interest include sustainable agriculture, sustainable forestry and non-timber forest products, sustainable tourism, fisheries management, and payment for environmental services. Tinker is also very interested in issues of water scarcity and quality for communities. Grants typically range from US$50 thousand to US$150 thousand, for up to three years. The Foundation encourages project collaboration among organizations in the USA and Latin America. EnDev — Clean Cooking Solutions Uganda

EnDev finances innovations in the cooking sector across Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa (namely Uganda, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Cambodia). The Innovation Challenge Fund will support innovations related to the following cooking solutions: Advanced Biomass Stoves, and Energy Efficient Electric Cooking Appliances. Successful proposals will receive between €20 thousand to €50 thousand to implement their solutions. Applications are open to all small and medium enterprises or organizations operating in the clean cooking sector in Uganda. Enterprises can apply until 26 January 2024. Details

EnDev — Clean Cooking Solutions Ethiopia

The Innovation Challenge Fund supports entrepreneurs and businesses that focus on higher tier clean cooking solutions such as advanced biomass cookstoves or other innovative technologies that can significantly reduce emissions and fuel consumption compared to traditional cooking methods. Global Resilience Partnership — Resilient Agriculture Innovations

The Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge aims to convert seed-level innovative agricultural ideas in East Africa and scale them to sustainable business ideas. RAIN seeks new innovative agricultural initiatives to provide customized support. Winners will be connected with potential funders, donors and investors. RAIN is open to non-profit organizations as well as farmers, and entrepreneurs in East Africa (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda). Applications are due on 30 January 2024. Convergence — Asia Climate Solutions Design Grant

The Asia Climate Solutions (ACS) Design Grant awards grant funding for the design and launch of innovative blended finance solutions for climate transition and resilience in Asia. The grant will target critical climate mitigation and adaptation sectors in Asia including nature-based solutions, clean energy transition, and sustainable cities and infrastructure. Feasibility study grants range between US$50 thousand to US$200 thousand. Proof-of-concept grants range between US$200 thousand to US$400 thousand.
