United States Agency for International Development — Sustainable Coastal Fisheries Management in the Pacific Region

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a Cooperative Agreement to address the drivers of illegal fishing that are degrading coastal fisheries and biodiversity in the Pacific Islands. The overall goal is to co-develop an activity to support sustainable coastal fisheries and protection of associated coastal and marine ecosystems in the Pacific Islands region and increasing the self-reliance of Pacific Island partners. USAID intends to provide US$15 million in total funding over a five year period. USAID encourages applications from potential new partners such as U.S. and non-US non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, universities, and international organizations. International Development Research Centre — Economic Opportunities for Women West Africa

The International Development Research Center (IDRC) seeks to support locally grounded in-depth evaluative and action research to identify and scale successful solutions for achieving women’s empowerment and gender equality in the world of work. Evaluative projects will have a budget of up to CA$500 thousand and a duration of up to 24 months. Action research projects will have a budget of up to CA$500 thousand and a duration of up to 36 months. The call is open to research institutions, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations based in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal. SNV Netherlands — Energy Access Kenya

SNV Netherlands invites solar and stove distributors to submit their expression of interest (EOI) for partnership towards promoting solar products and clean cooking solutions in Kenya. Proposed projects have to target refugee camps in order to promote stoves and small scale solar solutions for social institutions in the refugee set-up. Belmont Forum — Transdisciplinary Research for Pathways to Sustainability

The Belmont Forum launches a collaborative research networking call on the theme: Transdisciplinary Research for Pathways to Sustainability. The Belmont Forum will support collaborative research networking activities that focus on approaches to develop Earth-system-based transformation pathways for sustainable development. The call provides both cash and in-kind resources. Applicants are advised to contact their funding organization listed in the announcement before starting to prepare proposals. Adaptation Fund — Readiness Grants

The Adaptation Fund announces that small grants are available under the Climate Finance Readiness Programme. South-South Cooperation grants are intended to increase peer-to-peer support among accredited National Implementing Entities (NIEs) and those seeking accreditation. Project Formulation Grants (up to a maximum of US$50 thousand) help build the capacity of NIEs in project preparation and design. Technical Assistance Grants are aimed at strengthening the capacity of NIEs in the areas of environmental, social, and gender risk management. U.S. Embassy Turkmenistan — Exchange Program for Biotechnology Experts

The U.S. Embassy announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to organize an exchange visit for 5 biotechnology experts from Turkmenistan to the United States for two to three weeks. The Turkmen experts will study the experience of US scientific and educational institutions in developing and applying biotechnologies and then adapt the new biotechnologies to Turkmenistan’s conditions. Awards may range from US$35 thousand to US$55 thousand. Eligibility extends to U.S. non-profit organizations and US educational institutions. Applications are due 21 August 2020. Link

Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine — Africa Agri-Food Development Program

The Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP) is a joint initiative between the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. AADP seeks to develop partnerships between the Irish Agri-Food Sector and African countries to support sustainable and mutual trade between Ireland and Africa. For this purpose AADP provides funding of up to €250 thousand per company for a full project or €100 thousand for a feasibility study. Only Irish Agri-Food companies are eligible to apply but each applicant must have at least one local partner in Africa. Projects will be supported in Botswana, Cóte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. European Commission — Environmental and Climate Development in Brazil

The European Commission (EC) seeks to promote sustainable and inclusive development in Brazil by supporting and strengthening local civil society organizations. Proposed projects under this call must: (a) strengthen the participation of civil society in the implementation of international agreements in environmental and/or climate areas, (b) develop sustainable socio-economic post-pandemic activities in the Amazon, or (c) support indigenous peoples in the Amazon. Grants requested under this call must be between €400 thousand and €650 thousand. Eligibility extends to Brazilian non-profit civil society organizations. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Traditional Communities in the Cerrado

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is a global program that provides grants to civil society to safeguard the world’s biodiversity hotspots. The CEPF intends to engage a consultant to develop an innovative knowledge product that will document best practice pertaining to the identification and mapping of areas of social and environmental importance where “invisible” traditional communities of the Cerrado reside. The consultancy will be conducted over a six-month period between September 2020 and March 2021. The total amount of time for the assignment is estimated at 20 days.
