U.S. Department of Agriculture — Strengthening East African Community Phytosanitary Practices

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) seeks to strengthen and further the technical assistance to the East Africa region to increase governmental capacity to meet international phytosanitary standards. USDA seeks partners with whom to collaborate to build the capacity of Economic Community of East African States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda). The initial award will be US$150 thousand. A total of US$500 thousand may be available over the lifetime of the project. U.S. Department of State — International Transboundary Water Cooperation

The program on international water cooperation seeks to improve coordination and cooperation over shared waters in regions where water is, or may become, a source of conflict. A grant for up to US$950 thousand will be awarded for a multi-donor partnership mechanism to support cooperation on shared waters. Eligibility extends to US and foreign non-profit organisations, institutions of higher education, and public international organizations. Applications have to be submitted by 14 August 2020. Swiss Government — Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships aim to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries. Thematic areas for post-graduate scientific research include Agriculture, Biodiversity and Sustainability, and Poverty Reduction, among others. Eligibility extends to young researchers from all around the world who have completed a master’s degree or PhD. Application deadlines vary by country (please check carefully). Government of India — Call for Research and Development Projects

The BRICS Young Scientist Forum seeks to strengthen existing bilateral and multilateral relations as well as cooperation among its member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. BRICS invites proposals from young scientists with projects in the thematic areas Ecology, Materials Science, and Artificial Intelligence for the 5th BRICS-YSF Conclave in Russia. All participants will have the opportunity to attend the activities of Science Communication Program. The program is open to scientists, engineers, technologists, innovators, science journalists, science professionals and researchers. European Commission — Food from the Oceans

The European Commission funds projects that explore new and sustainable aquatic and marine sources for human food with focus in under-used species and/or side streams from: (i) marine and aquatic sources; or (ii) the fisheries industry. Proposals for the cultivation of aquatic and/or marine biomass must include innovative and sustainable production and harvesting systems. The Commission will provide funding of up to a maximum of €16 million to address this specific challenge. The application has to be submitted as joint project proposal from at least three legal entities, each of which must be established in a different EU Member State or Horizon 2020 associated country. Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation — Partnerships for Global Sustainable Development

The “Swiss Programme for Research on Global lssues for Development” (r4d programme) promotes applied, need-based scientific research in developing countries. Projects that analyse, develop and test innovative solutions to sustainable development challenges in developing countries in any thematic area or field of research are eligible. The program will support consortia that consist of at least a Swiss research institution, a research partner in the Global South/East and a non-research implementation partner (government, civil society, private sector). SDC’s contribution will be CHF 100 thousand to be used over a period of max. 12 months. The deadline for submitting pre-proposals is 12 October 2020. Link

U.S. Department of Agriculture — Donation of U.S. Agricultural Commodities

The Food for Progress (FFPr) Program provides for the donation of U.S. agricultural commodities to developing countries in support agricultural development activities. Priority areas under this call are: the Cacao Sector (Colombia), the Cashew Sector (West Africa), the Vanilla Spice Sector (Uganda), Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards (Dominican Republic), and the Trade Facilitation Agreement (Bangladesh). USDA intends to make up to five awards ranging from US$15 million US$35 million each. Eligibility extends to government agencies, nonprofit agricultural organizations or cooperatives, colleges and universities; and private entities. The closing date for applications is 14 July 2020. U.S. Department of State — Support for Environmental Cooperation

The U.S. Department of State announces funding for logistics, meetings coordination, and digital communications to support environmental cooperation between all the U.S. Free Trade Agreement countries. Funding of up to US$197 thousand will be awarded to be used for logistics and meeting coordination support for in-person and virtual meetings, as well as digital communications to promote environmental cooperation programs. ENI CBC Med — Call for Capitalization Projects

The Mediterranean Sea Basin Program is a cross-border cooperation initiative implemented by the EU and neighboring coastal territories. The ENI CBC Med finances cooperation projects with focus on biodiversity conservation, climate change, and pollution for a more sustainable Mediterranean area. ENI CBC Med accepts applications for capitalization projects in the following priority areas: Water Management, Waste Treatment and Recycling, Renewable Energy, Integrated Coastal Zone Management. The maximum EU contribution is 90% of the total eligible costs with a total maximum of €1 million per project. The deadline for the submission of project proposals is 28 July 2020. Click here

Swiss National Science Foundation — Scientific Exchanges

The program Scientific Exchanges is aimed at researchers who want to host their own scientific event in Switzerland; invite colleagues from abroad for a research visit to Switzerland; or visit their colleagues in another country. For events, an important criterion is the participation of women speakers and young researchers. Applicants for scientific exchanges must be employed in Switzerland, and applications must be submitted at least four months before the event or visit. Details
