Katapult Ocean invests in tech companies with positive impact on the ocean. The accelerator program provides investments and mentorship for ocean technology startups from all around the world. The sectors covered by the program include ocean health, fisheries, and energy, among others. Startups will receive a US$150 thousand investment in their company in exchange for 8% equity. BBSRC and NERC — Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture
BBSRC and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) announce a joint call to address challenges related to the sustainable enhancement of agriculture (including crops and livestock) and aquaculture (including finfish and shellfish) in low- and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Asia and South-Eastern Asia regions. BBSRC and NERC have allocated a maximum of up to £3.4 million, to fund multidisciplinary research projects of up to 24 months in duration. Proposals must be led by a principal investigator in the UK. The Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Czech invite joint proposals under the India-Czech Scientific and Technological Cooperation Programme. Relevant priority areas under this call are (1) natural sciences and biotechnology; and (2) research of climate change, environment and energy; among others. The British Council Small-Scale Research Project Scheme provides funding (up to £5 thousand) for early-career researchers in the UK and countries in South Asia. The Know-how Exchange Program co-finances the transfer of know-how and best practices from EU to non-EU member countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI). Thematic areas in the current call by KEP-Italy include energy, environment, and agriculture and rural development (among others). Proposals are submitted by organizations in CEI member states which are also member states of the European Union for knowledge transfers to non-EU member states of the CEI. The non-EU members of the CEI are Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine. The maximum grant is €40 thousand. U.S. Department of State — U.S.-ASEAN Water Smart Exchanges
The U.S. Office of Conservation and Water seeks US applicants for the U.S.-ASEAN Smart Cities Partnership Water-Smart Exchanges (WiSE) program. The Program will pair cities in the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) with counterparts in the United States to expand the adoption of new technologies and innovative approaches to improve the management of water resources. ASCN participants will tour U.S. locations to study water management practices and technology innovations. One single award of up to US$1.4 million is available for an initial project period of three years. Eligibility is limited to U.S. non-profit organizations and educational institutions. The CEI makes grants to support its action plan. Cooperation projects are mainly for seminars, workshops, training courses, and other kinds of meetings. Priority themes include climate, environment, sustainable energy, and others. Projects can be submitted by all public and private bodies in CEI’s member states, as well as by international and regional organizations. Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Danida Market Development Partnerships 2019
Danida Market Development Partnerships promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Focusing on SDG 8, the main objective is to promote sustainable local economic growth and employment in developing countries in agriculture, energy, and other sectors. Applications are invited from consortia that include a business partner and an administrative partner, and possibly including additional partners from civil society, government, universities, etc. The program is available in Denmark’s priority countries for development assistance, and in selected other countries below the World Bank limit of lower-middle income countries that have a Danish representation. DMDP has a budget of DKK 100 million in 2019 for 10-12 partnerships. Danida’s support to the partnership project may cover up to 75% of total project costs.
