Engineers Without Borders Canada — Fellowship for African Social Entrepreneurs

Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) invites applications for the EWB Kumvana Fellowship 2019. The program gives African social entrepreneurs and changemakers the opportunity to foster collaborations with Canadian professionals. The Kumvana program consists of an 8-week online learning course, a one week African retreat, and a 1-month intensive Canadian experience. SEED — SAG-Seed Replicator Workshops for Eco-Enterprises in Zambia

SEED is a global partnership founded by UNEP, UNDP, and IUCN to promote eco-enterprises. The program announces its next replicator workshop in Zambia. The replicator workshop of one day introduce motivated individuals to proven business models from various countries. Participants will learn how to adapt them to your individual local context to solve environmental, social and economic challenges. Focus areas are manufacturing, waste management and agriculture. Future entrepreneurs, business owners and NGOs are welcome to apply. The participation in the workshop is free of charge, participants must cover their own transport costs however. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Capacity Building Fellowship

The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) seeks international partnerships to implement the “U.S. Air Quality Capacity Building Fellowship” project, an international exchange program of American air quality experts with governments in targeted, highly-polluted countries. Selected organizations will manage the operations of the fellowship program, including the recruitment of Fellows, placement in host country governments as well as travel, and administrative support. Eligible countries under this award include: Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam. U.S. Department of State — Environmental Governance

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for Environmental Governance. The purpose of this project is to improve environmental governance, particularly to address the challenges of air pollution, water, and waste management in Morocco, Jordan, Oman, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and/or Honduras. UK Research Councils — Global Challenges Research Fund 2018

The Global Challenges Research Fund invites applications to grow research capability in the UK to meet the challenges faced by developing countries. Examples of thematic areas include sustainable agriculture; clean air, water, and sanitation; renewable energy and materials; addressing environmental shocks and long-term environmental changes; and others. Investigators may request up to £3 million over two years. Both UK and international research organisations (Universities, public laboratories, or nonprofit organisations) can be research partners and receive funds. British Council — Researcher Links Workshops, UK/Turkey

Researcher Links Workshops bring together early-career researchers from the UK and a partner country to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. UK and Turkish Institutions can request up to £40 thousand to be used towards workshop implementation. All workshops must be held in 2019. Each proposal must have one Principal Applicant from the UK and one Principal Applicant from Turkey. The submission deadline is 17 September 2018. Link

Smogathon — Technology to Fight Air Pollution

Smogathon aims to fight air pollution through technology. Start-ups will compete for $15 thousand in cash and a contract to implement their innovation in Krakow, Poland. Smogathon welcomes participation from any group worldwide that works as a registered company, start-up, foundation, or research group with a legal entity. UK Natural Environment Research Council — Towards a Sustainable Earth

The UK Natural Environment Research Council and funding partners invite proposals for the Towards a Sustainable Earth (TaSE) initiative, which aims to improve our understanding of the complex interactions between people and the environment required to make progress in achieving the United Nations Global Goals (Sustainable Development Goals). Applicants are invited to submit multilateral collaborative research proposals comprising eligible researchers from a minimum of three nations (Eligible funding agencies can be found in the call for proposals). Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Grants Cycle 2018-2019: South Sudan

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives offers short-term funding to community groups, NGOs, people’s organizations — and in exceptional cases, to international NGOs and government institutions — for small projects addressing empowerment, capacity-building, economic, environmental, and social development issues in South Sudan. The annual Climate and Clean Air Awards are given to recognize exceptional contributions and actions taken by individuals or groups to reduce carbon and methane emissions.
