The Research Council of Norway funds international cooperation in its HAVBRUK2 program of aquaculture research. Funding is available for project establishment support for international projects; personal visiting researcher grants; and personal overseas research grants. Priority will be given to collaboration with researchers in the EU, USA, Canada, China, Japan, India, Chile, and Brazil. Collaboration with researchers in other countries will also be of interest. ARIMNet2 — Call for Young Researchers
The EC’s ARIMNet is a consortium to support integrated and trans-disciplinary research that enhances the contribution of agricultural and food systems for sustainable social and economic development in the Mediterranean Basin. The ARIMNet2 2017 Joint Call is dedicated to young researchers in two topics: promoting sustainable agriculture for socio-economic development; and valorising local products through food value chains improvement. The participating countries are Algeria, Croatia, Egypt, France, Morocco, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey. A project consortium must include at least three young researchers from three different participating countries (at least one from a northern country and one from a southern country). The submission period is 16 August 2017 until 14 September 2017. Link
International Livestock Research Institute — Africa Biosciences Challenge Fund 2017-2018
The Biosciences eastern and central Africa (BecA) Hub awards research fellowships to African agricultural researchers for short-term projects at the BecA-ILRI Hub in Nairobi. The announcement identifies the priority research themes. Candidates should be currently engaged in agricultural research and be affiliated with a national agricultural research system in the eligible countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Dem Rep Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Under special partnership and collaboration arrangements, applicants from other African countries are considered for the fellowship. The Fund supports travel, accommodation, stipend, and research costs. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis through 30 June 2018. Link
U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — Climate Programs 2018
For 2018, NOAA announces seven grant competitions to advance the understanding of Earth’s climate system, and to foster its application for decision making. The program supports research that is conducted across the USA and internationally. NOAA anticipates making about 90 grants, each ranging between US$50 thousand and US$300 thousand per year, with some exceptions. For most competitions, the deadline for letters of intent is 14 June 2017. Link
Center for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries — Tropical Coastal Marine Research
The Center for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Center) will fund up to five fellowships for researchers from developing countries to work with senior researchers and faculty members at the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) in Germany. Fellowships are for up to three months. Travel costs are covered by the NAM S&T Center; ZMT offers fellows a monthly subsistence allowance. The closing date for applications is 07 July 2017. Link
CRDF Global — Saudi and U.S. Research Collaboration
CRDF Global announces the 2017 Visiting Scholar Fellowship Program at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. U.S. researchers will travel to Saudi Arabia for one semester (starting January 2018) to participate in collaborative research with a KAUST research center. The Phoenix Zoo (Arizona, USA) makes small grants to support wildlife conservation and science worldwide. Grants are limited to US$3 thousand for one year. CRDF offers travel support to early-career bioscience and veterinary professionals in Southeast Asia to participate in the conference of the Asia Pacific Biosafety Assocation scheduled for August 2017. Applications are welcome from individuals in key positions related to biosafety or biosecurity in their respective institutions and regions. Priority is for applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Consideration will also be given to applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. French Institute for Development Research — GUYAMAZON, 4th Call for Proposals
France’s Institute for Development Research (IRD) collaborates with other French institutions and three Brazilian states to sponsor GUYAMAZON for collaborative French-Brazilian research in the Amazon region. Research themes include biodiversity, terrestrial and forest ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, climate and health, agro-ecology and subsistence farming, renewable energy, and social sciences.
