TREE Fund — Building Bridges Initiative

The Building Bridges Initiative helps arborists and urban foresters communicate the value of trees and urban forests through engagement via collaborative research and other projects with public works officials, risk assessment professionals, civil engineers, wildlife researchers, soil scientists, and others. The maximum award value of grants is US$30 thousand. TREE Fund welcomes research proposals and applications from a wide range of academic and technical disciplines, of both a qualitative and a quantitative nature. The Safe Arborist Techniques Fund (SATF) supports research and development into the techniques and equipment that arborists use in climbing, rigging, and working on trees to provide a safer working environment. The maximum award value of SATF grants is US$15 thousand. TREE Fund — Funding for Arboriculture and Urban Forestry

The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program makes grants to researchers in arboriculture and urban forestry worldwide. Projects of one to three years are funded to a maximum of US$10 thousand. In 2025, the grant program will be focused specifically on Arboriculture; Tree Health; and Risk Assessment. Applicants must send a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) before 15 September 2025 to apply. TREE Fund — Research in Arboriculture

The John Z. Duling Grant Program offers funding up to US$25 thousand for 1-3 years to support exploratory work in the early stages of untested but potentially transformative research in arboriculture. In 2025, the program will focus on Propagation, Plant Selection, Development of New Varieties, and Planting/Establishment. Applicants can be of any national or ethnic origin. Swiss National Science Foundation — Team-oriented Cross-border Research

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) offers funding through the Swiss Programme for International Research by Scientific Investigation Teams (SPIRIT) to research projects in all disciplines. Grants should contribute to the education of researchers in participating countries, with a special focus on equal opportunities and the promotion of women scientists. Research groups can request between CHF50 thousand and CHF500 thousand. The duration of projects is limited to 2-4 years. Applicants from two to four eligible countries are eligible to apply (SNSF determines the eligible partner countries based on the official list of countries receiving development assistance). MDPI — Forests Travel Award

The Forests Travel Award encourages junior scientists to present their latest research at academic conferences in the field of forests and forest ecology. The financial support of CHF800 can be used to attend an international conference held in 2026. Applicants must be postdoctoral fellows or PhD students involved in forestry-related sciences. French Institutes for Advanced Study — Fellowship Program

The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme offers 10-month fellowships at the seven Institutes of Aix Marseille, Cergy, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes and Paris. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars and scientists to develop their innovative research projects in France. The FIAS Fellowship Programme is open to all disciplines in the Social Sciences and the Humanities. Fellows receive a living allowance (2,200€ per month), social security coverage, accommodation, a research and training budget, plus coverage of travel expenses. African Women in Agricultural Research and Development — African Women in Data Science Fellowship

African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD)accepts applications for the African Women in Data Science Fellowship. The Fellowship aims to enhance the leadership and technical capabilities of African women professionals utilizing data science to foster inclusive, evidence-based innovation in agrifood systems and climate resilience. The program targets African women from Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Malawi. The application deadline is 31 July 2025. Link

Japan Science and Technology Agency — Research Partnership 2026

The Japan Science and Technology Agency, in collaboration with the Japan International Collaboration Agency, calls for proposals for the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS). Proposals are invited in the following research fields: environment/energy; bio-resources; and disaster prevention and mitigation. The SATREPS program provides funding of approx. ¥ 100 million per project per year. Researchers external to Japan should consult their national government agency responsible for ODA technical cooperation, the Embassy of Japan, or JICA offices in their resident countries. Royal Society — Entrepreneur in Residence

The Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) scheme aims to increase the knowledge and awareness in UK universities of cutting-edge industrial science, research, and innovation. The scheme provides industrial scientists and entrepreneurs with the opportunity to spend one day a week at a university developing their projects. The EiR awards are for one year. The value of the scheme is up to a maximum of £20 thousand. The scheme is open to applicants of any nationality, who are eligible to work in the UK.
