The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) supports scientific research in all academic disciplines. SNSF Consolidator Grants 2023 are aimed at researchers (based in Switzerland or abroad) who plan to apply for an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2023. Successful applicants will be able to conduct research in Switzerland and consolidate their scientific independence. The scheme is open to all fields of research and researchers of any nationality. Applicants can request a budget of up to CHF 1.75 million for a maximum of 5 years. Additional funding of up to CHF 870 thousand may be requested for specific costs. Dubai Municipality — Dubai International Award for Best Practices
The Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with UN Habitat, offers Best Practices Awards for outstanding contributions that demonstrate valuable contributions to sustainable urban development. The five award categories include one on urban food systems, and one on addressing climate change and reducing pollution. The competition is open to governments, nonprofits, companies, universities and individuals. Total award prizes sum up to US$1 million. BirdLife International — Conservation of Natural Grasslands
The BirdLife in the Americas seeks proposals for the conservation and research of natural grasslands and their birds in the region. The “Small Grants for Grassland Conservation” are aimed at individuals working or conducting research in grassland conservation. The prioritized countries for this call are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Applicants may request up to US$12 thousand in funding for their project. University of the Sunshine Coast — PhD Scholarships in Tropical Forest Restoration
The University of the Sunshine Coast offers five PhD scholarships for projects related to restoration of degraded tropical forest landscapes. Graduate students will undertake their research as part of a large reforestation project working with communities to restore degraded landscapes in the Philippines. Applicants must be based in Australia or willing to relocate to Australia. The scholarship includes a monthly salary, tuition of 3 years and an allowance for relocation. Robert Bosch Foundation — Africa Science Leadership Program
The Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP) seeks to identify and select leading African researchers in basic and applied science, engineering, among others. Participants will receive training in the areas of thought leadership, team management and research development. Most training, travel, meal and accommodation costs will be covered by the program. Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate — Grant Program
The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) funds research into natural solutions to climate change and poverty. The GCBC makes grants that fund research into how the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity can help address climate change and improve livelihoods of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. French Development Agency — Social and Environmental Justice
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) accepts expressions of interest for research projects that address the contribution for the commons and citizen participation from a social and environmental justice perspective. The budget requested must not exceed €200 thousand per project. The research projects must be carried out in developing countries specified in the announcement. Inter-American Development Bank — Climate Change and its Nexus with Gender and Diversity
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks research proposals that contribute to measuring and evaluating solutions for addressing climate change and promoting an inclusive transition to a greener economy. The initiative seeks to advance knowledge development regarding the existing inequalities between men and women, as well as inequalities faced by Indigenous Peoples, people of African descent, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. The fourth edition of this call focuses on the topic of climate change and its nexus with gender and diversity. Funding may range from US$20 thousand to US$100 thousand. International Development Research Centre — Regional Research Networks
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a call for full proposals for the selection of regional research hubs to advance skills and policies for an inclusive and sustainable future of work. This initiative supports high-quality, innovative and gender responsive research that addresses key Future of Work challenges, including climate-resilient food systems. Regional research hubs can submit budget requests of up to a maximum of CA$1.7 million. IDRC is expecting to fund 5 regional research hubs in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA and LAC.
