International Union of Forest Research Organizations — Short Scientific Visits

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) offers a limited number of grants of up to €5 thousand for short scientific visits to early-career scientists who reside in an economically disadvantaged country to visit a forest research organization overseas. The duration of the scientific visit should be agreed between the applicant and host organization and last approximately three months. The funding should cover travel and subsistence costs for the period of the grant. The application deadline is 31 July 2023. Details

Swedish Research Council — Sustainability and Resilience Research

The Swedish Research Council funds research projects of particular relevance to the fight against poverty and for sustainable development in least developed countries. Up to 6 researchers can propose a joint research project. At least one researcher from a least developed or lower middle income country must participate. The grant amount will fall between SEK 400 thousand and SEK 2 million per year for a maximum of 3 years. The closing date for applications is 23 May 2023. Link

United Nations University — Research Fellowship in Biotechnology

United Nations University accepts applications for the Biotechnology Fellowship Program to build biotechnology capacities within Latin America and the Caribbean region. Each UNU-BIOLAC fellow is expected to perform specialized research at a laboratory in the LAC region for no more than three months. To perform their research fellowship, each funded fellow will receive a single stipend of US$4000 for travel and living expenses. University of St. Gallen — Research Partnership Grants 2023

Research Partnership Grants aim to strengthen or initiate scientific exchange between researchers from Swiss and Latin American institutions in all disciplines. These grants are particularly useful to develop joint project proposals to be submitted to large funding agencies in Latin America, Switzerland, and Europe or to combine already existing and independently funded projects. The Leading House invites scholars from Switzerland to propose mono- or interdisciplinary research projects in any Latin American country, involving bilateral or multilateral partnerships. Belmont Forum — Climate, Environment, and Health

The Belmont Forum welcomes transdisciplinary proposals that address the nexus of Climate, Environment, and Health. Proposals to the Belmont Forum must address one of the following four themes: Decision-science of environmental behavior and implementation; Food, Environment, and Biological Security; Climate Risks to Ecosystems & Populations. Belmont Forum — Climate and Cultural Heritage

The Belmont Forum welcomes proposals for collaborative research on cultural heritage and climate change, to foster collaboration among the research community across several regions. Proposals must address one of the following themes: the impact of climate change on cultural heritage; cultural heritage as a resource for climate mitigation and adaptation; or sustainable solutions for heritage. Canadian International Development Research Center — Climate Emergency

The Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) seeks concept notes to support new research that responds to the intersection of two global challenges of the climate emergency and closing civic spaces in the Global South. Funding of up to CA$950 thousand is available. Applications can be submitted in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese. Interested applicants are invited to submit concept notes by 26 May 2023. Earthwatch — Support for Field-Based Research Projects 2025

Earthwatch supports scientific field projects in topics of ecosystems and biodiversity in several world regions. Applicants to lead these field projects must have a PhD and can be of any nationality. Earthwatch invites projects that have a strong rationale for using non-specialists (volunteers) to aid with data collection, scientific observation, or other research tasks. Annual budgets range between US$20 thousand to US$80 thousand. Program themes include among others collaborative ecological research; ecological restoration; global conservation priorities; ocean ecosystems; and sustainable agriculture and forestry. World Academy of Sciences — TWAS Arab Regional Award

The TWAS Regional Awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to popularize science, and have developed new strategies that serve the popularization of science and technology in developing countries. The winner will receive a US$3,000 cash award. Eligibility extends to Arab scientists with significant research achievements in the field of Science and Technology. Self nominations are not allowed. European Development Fund — Energy Transition in Eswatini

The European Development Fund seeks to boost sustainable and inclusive development of the Eswatini key value chains via renewable energy and energy efficiency investments. The priorities of this call for proposals are preliminary studies to assess the potential of renewable energy, and outlining business cases of established sites.
