Wild Animal Initiative — Small Grants Program

Wild Animal Initiative provides grants for research projects that help us understand and improve the lives of wild animals. Small grants support innovative methods for measuring and monitoring wild animal welfare, population regulation, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation interventions. Grant size varies from US$2 thousand to US$30 thousand. The small grants program is open to anyone, although Wild Animal Initiative is especially interested in supporting postdocs and PhD students pursuing a long-term research career in the field of wild animal welfare, and researchers who have not previously included welfare considerations in their work. Scotiabank — Decarbonization Research

The Scotiabank accepts applications for projects that will advance research and leadership in support of global decarbonization efforts. The Net Zero Research Fund (NZRF) seeks partnerships with leading think-tanks and academic institutions that are supporting key sectors in their efforts to decarbonize. Scotiabank will award grants ranging from CA$25 thousand up to CA$100 thousand. To be eligible for funding, partner organizations must be registered not-for-profit or charitable organizations in Canada, the US or Latin America. King Boudouin Foundation — Research on Water Availability

The Ernest du Bois Prize offers €20 thousand for doctoral studies on the theme of water availability. The awards are made to young students and engineers in Belgium who are carrying out research on the theme of water and its availability — including issues of protecting reserves, managing pollution, developing processing techniques, and others. Applications need to be submitted in French or Dutch, even though the doctoral research itself may be written in English. The application deadline is 18 October 2022. Ernest du Bois Prize

World Parrot Trust and Natural Encounters Conservation Fund — Parrot Conservation Grants Program 2022

The Parrot Conservation Grants Program invites applications. The purpose of this funding is to implement conservation projects for parrots currently threatened with global extinction. Priority will be given to projects directed towards conservation of threatened parrot species in the wild. Research projects with direct conservation application will also be considered. The total WPT/NECF contributions to any one project will be up to US$5 thousand. Pre-proposals have to be submitted by 10 June 2022. Full application details can be found here

InnoEnergy — Investment Round for Energy Projects

InnoEnergy seeks businesses with innovative ideas and technologies in sustainable energy. InnoEnergy invests in European businesses (including Eastern Europe) and helps develop innovative products, services, and solutions that have high commercial potential. Agropolis Fondation — Doctoral Fellowship

The Agropolis Fondation seeks to promote the agro-ecological transition by funding PhD research of young scientists. PhD research projects may focus on three main themes: Understanding the effects of climate change on agricultural systems; documenting and analyzing the measures and policies that support the conservation, and promote sustainable use of biodiversity in various agroecosystems, and ensuring sustainable food systems by moving towards more responsible production and consumption. University St. Gallen — Consolidation Grant with Latin America

The Consolidation Grant promotes sustainable, longer-term research cooperation between Swiss and Latin American scholars. The goal is to provide financing for the organization of collective workshops, conferences, and fieldwork, as well as for the mobility of young researchers. The Leading House invites scholars from Switzerland to propose research projects in any Latin American country, involving bilateral or multilateral partnerships. Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture — AI for Climate Action

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) invites applications for innovation research proposals on artificial intelligence innovations from eligible researchers universities and academic research institutions in Africa. RUFORUM seeks to select research proposals that deploy responsible AI for climate action with demonstrated relevance to livelihoods of vulnerable communities. Research budgets with a range between US$50 thousand to US$60 thousand and duration of up to 18 months will be considered. The deadline for submission is 30 June 2022. Details

The Gorilla Organization — Ymke Warren Memorial Conservation Award

The Gorilla Organization is a UK-registered charity whose mission is to secure the survival of the world’s last remaining gorillas in the wild. The annual Ymke Warren Memorial Conservation Award of £750 is made to African researchers for fieldwork that contributes to the understanding of and/or conservation of wild gorillas and other great apes. Eligibility extends to early-career researchers from gorilla range state countries (Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda). British Academy — Researchers at Risk Fellowships

The Researchers at Risk Fellowships Program supports individual researchers at risk if they are subject to discrimination, persecution, suffering or violence. Researchers will be able to take up temporary fellowships at UK institutions to continue their research and build long-lasting collaborative links with UK counterparts. The Fellowships will cover the natural sciences, medical sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences with applications made via UK-based institutions. The awards are expected to run for up to two years. The total amount available is circa £37 thousand per year (£74 thousand over two years). The call will remain open on a rolling basis with monthly deadlines for applications until all funding has been utilized. The first deadline for applications is 04 May 2022. Know more
