The Early-Career Awards provide funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity through innovative projects. Research can be in any discipline, including STEM, experimental medicine, or climate – as long as it has the potential to improve human life. The Trust covers the researcher’s salary and up to £400 thousand for research expenses. The applicant’s host organization has to be based in the UK, Republic of Ireland, a low- or middle-income country (apart from India and mainland China). Australian Government — Direct Aid Program Papua New Guinea
The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) in Papua New Guinea. The small grants program supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of water and sanitation, environmental protection, food security, scientific research, and others. Asian Development Bank — Climate Change Data Visualization Challenge
ADB South Asia Department (SARD) aims to increase the visibility of the importance of climate research and build climate action capacity in ADB developing member countries. The Data Visualization Challenge seeks data scientists and practitioners to create novel and insightful visualizations on climate change and resilience. The winner will have the potential to be contracted by ADB to develop and deliver workshops on data literacy and visualization for a total contractual value up to US$10 thousand. Association of Commonwealth Universities — Early-Career Conference Grants
Early-career conference grants support emerging academics so they can take part in conferences that can have a profound impact on their teaching and research. This year’s grants are being offered for both virtual (online) and in-person conferences. Virtual conference grants cover the conference registration fee of up to £600 and a data grant of £50 for applicants who do not have reliable access to Wi-Fi. In-person conference grants are a maximum of £2,000 to cover conference registration fees, flights, accommodation and other travel related costs. German Academic Exchange Service — Project-based Personnel Exchange Program with India
The ’Project-based Personnel Exchange Program’ (PPP) is a bilateral research promotion program to strengthen the collaboration between Indian and German research groups, which are working jointly on a particular scientific project. Financial support is available to support exchange visits to the partner institution and short term stays of scientists and doctoral students. The program is open to academics in the disciplines of agricultural sciences, veterinary medicine, forestry, medicine, life sciences, animal sciences, and others. University professors, scientists/researchers and post-doctoral researchers from German and Indian universities and those in permanent positions at public funded research institutes are eligible to apply. The BBSRC Partnering Awards aim to set up partnership links between UK and overseas laboratories, promote the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists, and to promote access to facilities. International partnerships focusing on the net zero carbon emissions target, through a sustainable, resilient and bio-diverse agri-food system are especially welcome. 100,000 Strong in the Americas — Cacao for Peace Innovation Fund
The Cacao for Peace Innovation Fund Grant Competition is designed to create and implement new student/faculty exchange and training programs in areas related to the cocoa value chain. Proposals must propose a research project focused on the cacao sector. The Innovation Fund intends to award up to eight grants of US$25 thousand. The Morris Animal Foundation supports research on animal health and welfare, including wildlife/exotics. Garden Club of America — Awards in Tropical Botany and Horticulture
The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers several grants, prizes, and fellowships for students enrolled at universities in the USA, including some awards that have a tropical focus. The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany are open to PhD candidates (application deadline is 15 January). The Anne Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany is open to PhD students and recent PhD graduates (deadline is 31 January). The Lou McCandless Marks Scholarship in Tropical Horticulture is restricted to U.S. citizens who are graduate students or advanced undergraduate students (deadline is 01 February).
