Eppley Foundation — Research in Biological and Physical Sciences
The Eppley Foundation for Research funds projects in medicine, life sciences, and the physical sciences. Areas of interest include innovative medical investigations and applications; endangered animals and ecosystems; and climate change. Applicants for grants must be associated with recognized nonprofit educational or research institutions in the US. Grants may be awarded for research internationally when applicants are based in the USA or are associated with U.S. institutions that will administer the grants. Most grants are under US$25 thousand. UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program — Young Scientist Awards 2022
UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program makes grants for conservation research through its Young Scientists Awards. The Award targets young researchers (not older than 35 years) carrying out interdisciplinary research on ecosystems, natural resources and biodiversity. Priority is given to projects carried out in the world’s biosphere reserves. Awards are up to US$5 thousand. The deadline for applications (English, French) is 14 January 2022. Breakthrough Institute — Generation Fellowship 2022
The Breakthrough Institute supports Generation Fellows who contribute writing and research to one of four policy programs at the Breakthrough Institute: Energy; Conservation; or Food and Farming. The program operates during ten weeks from June through August. Fellows receive US$600 per week. Eligibility to apply for the fellowships extends to final-year undergraduates, college graduates, and postgraduates. Fellowships are open to applicants from any country. British Council — Newton Fund Institutional Links ASEAN
The UK-ASEAN Institutional Links Early Career Researchers (ILECR) Scheme provides seed funding to senior researchers from higher education institutions in the UK and partner countries – Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Subject areas for the collaborative research include local development challenges such as agritech and biodiversity, among others. Proposals are submitted jointly by a principal investigator in the UK with a principal investigator in a partner country. Grants are up to £50 thousand over 12 months. Zurich University of Applied Sciences — Research Partnership Grants South Asia and Iran
The Research Partnership Grants support research projects with collaborating institutions in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Leading House South Asia and Iran accepts grant applications solely from applicants. The Swiss applicant needs to have a proposed or an ongoing research project with an institutional partner in South Asia or Iran. The maximum grant amount per project is CHF35 thousand. Both the applicant and the partner institute abroad are required to make in-kind contributions to the proposed research project. Government of India — India Philippines Joint Research Program
The Governments of India and the Philippines invite joint research projects by researchers of both countries. The aim is to encourage scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. Proposals for joint research in agriculture are eligible. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Ocean Science for Sustainability Development
The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), and partners, offer a shipboard fellowship opportunity onboard the research vessel R/V Marion Dufresne during 2022 (29 June – 22 July). Ten early-career scientists and postgraduate students involved in oceanographic work at institutions in the Western Indian Ocean will be selected to participate in the Floating University project. The program is primarily open to postgraduate students (PhD or MSc) involved in oceanographic work, marine sciences, and maritime studies at institutions in Comoros, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Seychelles Somali, and Tanzania. Prince Bernhard Nature Fund — Conservation of Endangered Species
The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) aims to save critically endangered flora and fauna in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It gives funding preference to organizations in these regions, sometimes in partnership with parties in Europe or North America. Projects have to focus on critically endangered species on the IUCN Red List. Grants are up to €20 thousand or US$20 thousand. In its research program “Knowledge for Tomorrow,” the Volkswagen Foundation funds research projects of African scientists in cooperation with partners in Germany. The program supports research across all disciplines. To aid with project proposals and development, the Volkswagen Foundation makes grants for workshops, symposia, and summer schools in Africa to help partners discuss and agree on research priorities and approaches.
