The CIVICUS Nelson Mandela-Graça Machel Innovation Awards shed a light on the importance of people power and civil society activism in creating a more just, inclusive and sustainable world. The Awards will recognize seven individuals, groups or organizations that stand out for their innovative work building people power in support of human rights and social justice for everyone. Each winning initiative will receive a US$5 thousand prize. The Awards are open to any individual, organization or group in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Pacific. Primate Conservation Inc. — Funding for Primate Research
Primate Conservation, Incorporated (PCI) supports conservation programs for wild populations of primates. PCI offers seed monies and matching grants for graduate students, qualified conservationists, and primatologists to study rare and endangered primates. The maximum grant amount is US$5 thousand. YouthLead — YouthLead Ambassadors
The YouthLead Ambassador program is a six-month development and leadership program for young changemakers between the ages of 18 and 35 years. The Ambassadors receive a stipend of US$300 at the conclusion of their successful ambassadorship. Eligibility is limited to young changemakers from low-and middle-income countries in the youth-development sector with a proven track record in supporting and mobilizing other young people in their communities. Global University Climate Forum — Student Action to Address Climate Change
The Global University Climate Forum brings student activists together to share ideas and act on the global imperative of addressing climate change. The Forum is a one-year program offering a series of workshops that will cover a range of topics pertaining to climate action. Selected teams will be invited to participate in a series of workshops. After the workshops, students will execute their ideas. College and University students from around the world are invited to apply with action-oriented projects. United Nations Institute for Training and Research — Social Entrepreneurship Training Program for Women
The UNITAR Social Entrepreneurship Training Program for Women aims to empower women with the knowledge and skills of entrepreneurship to address socio-economic challenges in Africa. The training will be delivered in English and consists of mentoring, pitching, planning, and outcome evaluation. This program is open for women, including members of small and medium enterprises, government agencies and academic institutions, from Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan. IHE Delft Institute for Water Education — Open Courseware Water Productivity
IHE Delft and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announce a new open online course on “Water Productivity and Water Accounting using WaPOR.” The WaPOR program assists countries in monitoring water productivity, identifying water productivity gaps, proposing solutions to reduce these gaps, and contributing to a sustainable increase in agricultural production. The online course targets practitioners and academicians who are working in water resources management and related fields and have an interest in using open access remote sensing data and other open-access data to assess the water resources situation in their region. Climate Tracker — Scholarship for Journalists (Chile)
Climate Tracker offers a 3-month paid fellowship to environmental and climate journalists from Chile. Fellows are expected to cover Energy and Climate Change issues and publish at least two articles in national media. Selected fellows receive online training, mentorship and a US$150 stipend per month for the duration of their fellowship. EPIC-N, in partnership with the UN Environment’s Global Adaptation Network and START, offer a learning workshop on increasing climate-resilience and sustainability in Asian countries. The learning process requires pairs of candidates (at least one person from a local university and at least one person from a local municipal/city government within the same area).
