The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability is the Secretariat for ProSPER.Net (Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network) in the Asia-Pacific region. The ProSPER.Net Leadership Programme helps its participants to develop interdisciplinary skills for sustainable development initiatives in local, regional, or global contexts. This year’s theme is ‘Engineering Approaches to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Towards Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region’. Individuals from the Asia-Pacific region interested and working in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management are invited to apply. Fellowships to cover the costs of participation are available. Frida — Climate and Environmental Justice Media Fellowship
In partnership with OpenGlobalRights, FRIDA provides a 5-month training program to young feminists on climate and environmental justice activism and digital journalism. Women between ages of 18 and 30 based anywhere in Sub Saharan Africa, Asia, the MENA region, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. Fellows will receive mentorship and are expected to dedicate 4-5 hours per week (total of 15-20 hours per month) from August to December 2019. Applications are submitted through a short Google form. Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa — Capacity Development in Agricultural Research
The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) invites applications for the Agricultural Research and Innovation Fellowship for Africa (ARIFA). Qualified African candidates will be trained in ARIFA-affiliated universities and centers of Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) in affiliated countries abroad. The fellowship covers international air travel, tuition fees and a monthly stipend. SEARCA and FSC — Summer School in Agriculture and Food Systems
The Summer School “Transformative Changes in Agriculture and Food Systems”, jointly organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Food Security Center (FSC) of the University of Hohenheim in Germany, will take place in Laguna, Philippines (9-27 September 2019). The FSC will offer up to 16 scholarships for PhD students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to participate in the course. University of Cape Town — CSAG Winter School 2019
The Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) at the University of Cape Town organizes a “winter school” intensive course, with the next one scheduled for five days in July 2019. The course is presented by facilitators from CSAG and other institutions to take participants through the full spectrum of topics related to climate and climate change, with an emphasis on issues in developing countries. The CEI makes grants to support its action plan. Cooperation projects are mainly for seminars, workshops, training courses, and other kinds of meetings. Priority themes include climate, environment, sustainable energy, and others. Projects can be submitted by all public and private bodies in CEI’s member states, as well as by international and regional organizations. Preference is for proposals submitted from CEI’s non-EU member states (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine). Grants are up to €15 thousand. The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders in the ASEAN countries. The YSEALI Academic Fellowship offer support to participate in a five-week institute on the campus of a U.S. university or college in one of the following topics: civil engagement; environmental issues; or social entrepreneurship and economic development. The fellowships include leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with peers in the USA.
