Monsanto Fund — Grants to Strengthen Farming Communities 2019

The Monsanto Fund makes grants to strengthen agricultural communities in several countries around the world. Grants of US$25 thousand and more are available to tax-exempt charitable organizations for activities and projects that address farmers’ education and training; food security; community water and sanitation; and other local needs. Monsanto’s international grants are administered at the country level. The Fund presents a list of eligible countries. Monsanto accepts international applications during two periods each year. Tropical Biology Association — Specialist Course: Citizen Science in Africa

The Tropical Biology Association provides specialist courses in tropical biology. The current specialist course “Citizen Science in Africa” aims to build the capacity of science leaders to use citizen science to collect data on biodiversity for conservation management. A limited number of scholarships will be available. Applicants are invited from non-governmental organisations, universities, research and conservation institutions and government research departments. The application deadline is 31 January 2019. São Paulo School of Advanced Science — Workshop: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Scenarios and Modelling on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services to Support Human Well-Being (SPSAS Scenarios) will hold a 2-week training and networking session in July 2019 on scenarios and modeling in biodiversity and ecosystem services, and its relation to human wellbeing. The Advanced School will be led by speakers from several countries. Approximately 100 applicants, 50 from Brazil and 50 from other countries will be selected to participate in the Advanced School. United States Agency for International Development — Capacity Development Workshop: Proposal Writing

Through its Local Capacity for Local Solutions program, USAID offers 15 scholarships to NGO leaders/managers to attend a Capacity Development Workshop on proposal writing. The participants must work in the focal areas identified (environment, HIV/AIDS, youth/citizen security, LGBTI) and be based in Trinidad and Tobago. ENEA Access — Support for Energy Initiatives in Africa and Asia-Pacific

The ENEA Access Program offers 30 to 100 days of professional consulting services on a pro-bono basis to advance initiatives for energy access in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. The program is relevant for nonprofit organizations and NGOs, technology developers, and social entrepreneurs. Activities that can be considered for ENEA’s support include feasibility studies, market and business models, implementation of pilot projects, and others. Projects must clearly contribute to the reduction of poverty and/or climate change as a result of improved access to energy. U.S. Department of State — Youth Leadership Program with Burma

The Office of Citizen Exchanges announces an open competition to conduct a four-week U.S.-based exchange program for teenagers and adult educators. The activities for each program will focus on civic education, community engagement and prepare participants to conduct projects at home that serve a community need. Applicants should plan to provide U.S.-based programming for 17-18 youth and 2-3 adult participants from Burma. Applicants may request up to US$190 thousand in project funding. In On Africa — Training Opportunity for Young African Leaders

The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALofT) Project is an online-based youth development programme designed to cultivate future thought leaders by empowering exceptional young Africans. The program is open to African students in any field of business, economic, political or social development (including but not limited to agriculture and other related themes). The 6-month project is structured around a web-based curriculum, delivered via an e-learning platform. International Council for Science — IRDR Young Scientists Program (4rd Batch)

The International Council for Science, in collaboration with several partner organizations, invites applications for the IRDR (Integrated Research on Disaster Risk) Young Scientists Program. The program offers young scientists (under age 40) of any nationality the opportunity to engage with a global network of professionals and practitioners. Benefits include international linkages and the possibility to be invited for additional training. U.S. Department of Agriculture — Borlaug Cocoa Fellowships 2019

The USDA invites applications for the 2019 Borlaug Cocoa Fellowships. The program aims to provide fellows with the skills and knowledge in the production and marketing of cocoa and cocoa products. Fellows from eligible countries in West Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean work with a mentor at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service or a U.S. university for up to 12 weeks. The U.S. mentor later visits the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. The research priorities vary by region and country. The application deadline is 31 December 2018. Swedish International Development Agency — Training on Healthy Livestock and Safe Food

Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. Organizations in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda are invited to nominate candidates for the 12-months Training Programme ‘Healthy Livestock and Safe Food’. The overall objective of this programme is to reduce poverty and vulnerability among smallholder farmers. Candidates representing government organisations, private companies or NGOs at national, regional or local level are encouraged to apply. The training will take place in Sweden. Sida will cover costs related to all programme phases except personal expenses, visa fees or any local airport taxes and departure fees. The closing date for applications is 31 January 2019.
