TWAS invites young scientists from developing countries (other than Malaysia) who wish to pursue advanced research in the natural sciences at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Selangor, Malaysia to apply. UPM will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences, including agricultural sciences, biology, and others. Applications will be accepted from 01 June to 31 August 2018. DAAD offers scholarships for PhD and Master studies. The scholarships are intended for graduate and postgraduate students from South East Asia who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in sustainable agricultural and rural development in their home country (In-Country scholarships) or in another South East Asia country (In-Region scholarships). DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also encouraged to apply for a research grant in Germany for 2 up to 6 months. Earth Journalism Network — Fellowship to attend the Congress for Conservation Biology (LACCCB 2018)
Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites working journalists from Latin America and the Caribbean to apply for the biodiversity and conservation fellowship at the inaugural LACCCB 2018 (25-27 July 2018, in Trinidad & Tobago). Selected participants will attend a workshop prior to the congress and then spend their time at the conference, developing sources and story ideas, and reporting on news from conservation organizations, governments and researchers. The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or business/entrepreneurship. African-German Network of Excellence in Science — Mobility Grant for Junior Researchers
AGNES seeks applications for its mobility grant scheme for junior researchers to strengthen the scientific capacity and networking in Africa through active co-operation. Selected researchers from sub-Saharan African countries will spend research stays between 1 and 2 months at a university/research institute in another sub-Saharan African country, where they will be collaborating with an experienced researcher. German Academic Exchange Service — Journalistic Scholarship for African Nationals
As part of the Pan African Soil Challenge, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Ethiopia offers a journalistic scholarship within the project “A bridge to Africa”. The aim of the project is to support Africa to implement methods to make food production sustainable and secure. Selected candidates from Africa will meet Geo-scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich in Accra, to get in contact with the latest methods of modern geoscientific research – modeling and simulation with supercomputers. U.S. Agency for International Development — Women in Science Mentoring Program
The PEER Women in Science Mentoring Program aims to help retain women in science and teach early career scientists to write successful international research awards. The USAID PEER Program invites applications from African Mentor-Mentee Cohorts. Cohorts should be made up of one woman senior faculty mentor and 2-4 women mentees (postdocs and/or junior faculty). Mentors will receive a US$2 thousand honorarium. Mentees will receive training and the opportunity to compete for small seed grants (US$10 thousand) following their participation in the year-long mentoring program. Claves21, in partnership with the Earth Journalism Network, has launched a free online course on biodiversity for Spanish-speaking journalists.The course will begin on March 12th and cover biodiversity science and policy, how to communicate on biodiversity, and digital tools to support biodiversity reporting. The three best final works will receive a cash award, consisting of a diploma and $ 5,000 (Argentine Pesos) for the first place, $ 4,000 for the second place and $ 3,000 for the third place.The submission of a journalistic work is required for the approval of the course. U.S. Department of State — Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs Program
The US Department of State provides entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and support for female students currently enrolled at Indian universities. Ideas may be based on scientific or technological research undertaken at the university or innovation created by the student independently. Selected participants will take part in a six-week online course, meet for an intense weekend workshop at the Nexus Startup Hub at the American Center New Delhi, and travel to Texas for a two-week program exploring commercial opportunities and markets.
