With funding provided by the U.S. Department of State, the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is offering an Environmental Sustainability Professional Fellows Program for 50 professionals from Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). Additionally, the program will select 10 participants from the USA. The fellowships will build the capacity of young leaders to address local environmental sustainability challenges related to climate change, sustainable energy, and environmental justice. Each fellow will spend four weeks working with a local government, organization, or company in the USA — concluding with a final program in Washington, DC. Swedish International Development Agency — International Training Programs
Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. The programs include one on sustainable urban water and sanitation. The invited countries are Bangladesh, Kenya, Myanmar, Tanzania, and Uganda. Candidates may be nominated by authorities, institutions, universities, NGOs, water utilities, or other private companies active in the water and sanitation sector. Ghent University — International Master of Science in Rural Development 2017
The International Master of Science in Rural Development (IMRD) is a two-year master’s program in rural development and agricultural economics, focusing on socioeconomic and institutional aspects. The IMRD comprises a consortium of 13 participating universities in the EU, China, Ecuador, India, South Africa, South Korea, and the USA. The program invites qualified individuals from around the world to apply. The program offers scholarships. World Wildlife Fund — Funding for Women Conservationists in the Congo Basin 2017
WWF-US supports women conservationists in the Congo Basin for short-term training and for academic and technical degrees in conservation. Applicants must be citizens and permanent residents of Central African Republic, Dem Rep Congo, Gabon, or Rep Congo. Note: EFN plans to include Cameroon in the list of eligible countries for the deadline on 01 February 2017. Most professional development grants are for less than six months and are funded up to US$5 thousand. Most academic grants are for one year and up to US$10 thousand for study anywhere in the world. Belgium’s University Commission for Development — Scholarships and Training Grants 2017-2018
The French-language universities of Belgium award 150 scholarships and about 70 training grants each year in the ARES program to applicants from developing countries. Subjects include environmental management and several others. Eligibility requirements are defined by age, previous education, and nationality. The eligible countries are Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Dem Rep Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for courses in English), Haiti, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam. Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe and Africa — Grants for Conservation and Sustainable Development 2017
The Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe and Africa (MCFEA) makes grants for environmental conservation, environmental education and research, and the relief of poverty. A special priority is projects that combine conservation with the economic and social development of local communities. Grants are to organizations for one year. Michigan State University — Graduate Studies for Rwandans in Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
With funding from the U.S. government, the Borlaug Higher Education Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program is implemented by Michigan State University. Rwanda is one of eleven countries for scholarship support under the BHEARD program. The scholarships will support master’s or PhD studies for Rwandans at regional universities in Africa, beginning August 2017 or January 2018. Applications are invited from the University of Rwanda (College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine), and from Rwanda’s Ministry of Agriculture. Course work will be undertaken at a regional university, and the student’s research project will be conducted in Rwanda. The application deadline is 30 October 2016. Link
Coady International Institute — Women’s Leadership 2017
The Global Change Leaders Program is a seven-week education program to enable women from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities at the Coady Institute, affiliated with St Francis Xavier University in Canada. The program offers successful candidates a full scholarship that includes tuition, travel, accommodations, and meals. Applicants should have at least four years of demonstrated leadership experience in fields such as food security, environment, inclusive economic development, and others. Wageningen University — Course in Landscape Governance
The Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation, in partnership with CIFOR and ICRAF, invites participants for an international course on landscape governance. The focus is institutional development at the landscape level — including multi-stakeholder platforms and networks, and financial support mechanisms. The course is open to experienced professionals with several years of experience in natural resources management, forestry, agriculture, rural development, rural livelihoods, sustainable development, or other relevant areas. The course will be held in English on the CIFOR-ICRAF campus in Bogor (Indonesia), April 2017. WWF supports professional training and formal studies of individuals working in disciplines directly relevant to nature conservation. Eligibility extends to mid-career nationals from Africa; Asia and Pacific; Latin America and Caribbean; Eastern Europe; and the Middle East.
