Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences — Training in Taxonomy and Collection Management 2017

The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is the country’s focal point for the Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI). Qualified individuals from developing countries supported by Belgian Development Cooperation can apply for study visits in Belgium to train in taxonomic projects and biodiversity assessment projects that have strong taxonomic components. Priority is given to projects in the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Dem Rep Congo, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda. The application deadline is 19 February 2017. Link

Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Travel Grants to Participate in 10th Symposium

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), in partnership with collaborating institutions in Tanzania, announces the 10th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium to be held in Dar es Salaam in October-November 2017. Abstracts are invited on any topic related to the coastal and marine environment of the West Indian Ocean. WIOMSA will provide a limited number of travel grants to regional participants whose abstracts have been accepted, with priority for students. The deadline to submit abstracts is 28 April 2017. The deadline to apply for travel grants is 31 July 2017. Link

The IUSSTF’s program Bioenergy – Awards for Cutting Edge Research (B- ACER) aims to nurture contacts between students and scientists from India and the USA in frontline area of biofuels and bioenergy. Opportunities are available for Indian citizens to pursue internships and fellowships at reputed U.S. scientific/technological institutions or laboratories to undertake the research work. ICMA International — Fellows Program in Environmental Sustainability, ASEAN Countries

With funding provided by the U.S. Department of State, the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is offering an Environmental Sustainability Professional Fellows Program for 50 professionals from Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). Additionally, the program will select 10 participants from the USA. The fellowships will build the capacity of young leaders to address local environmental sustainability challenges related to climate change, sustainable energy, and environmental justice. Each fellow will spend four weeks working with a local government, organization, or company in the USA — concluding with a final program in Washington, DC. Campus France — French Research Cooperation with International Partners

France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborates with other French ministries to jointly support the Hubert Curien Partnerships for international exchanges in science and technology.  The program periodically publishes calls for proposals. They currently include the PHC Pamoja partnerships with Kenya (application deadline is 16 December 2016); the PHC Xu Guangqi partnerships with China (deadline 15 January 2017); the PHC Napata partnerships with Sudan (deadline 17 January 2017); and the PHC Cai Yuanpei partnerships with China (deadline on 19 February 2017).  Each partnership provides details about research priorities, eligibility for support, and how to apply.  Link

Wuppertal Institute — Knowledge Exchanges for Renewable Energy

SEPS (Sustainable Energy Project Support) will fund knowledge exchanges that promote small-scale renewable energy. The countries considered for this call are those within the Caribbean, South and Central America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.  The target groups of the knowledge exchanges are energy practitioners and organisations, together with other stakeholders, in the eligible priority regions. AuthorAID — Travel Grants and Workshop Grants for Researchers in Developing Countries

AuthorAID announces its second round of small grants in 2016 to support researchers in developing countries with travel and workshops. In this second round, AuthorAID plans to award six travel grants (US$1,500 each) and six workshop grants (US$2,500 each). AuthorAID posts the list of eligible developing countries. The deadline to apply for travel grants is 17 July 2016. The deadline to apply for workshop grants is 27 July 2016. Link

French Institute for Development Research (IRD) — Mobility Grants for Doctoral Research

The program ARTS funds doctoral research by individuals in the developing world who are working on research of interest to IRD and its partner organizations. The program encourages mobility of the supported researchers to engage with research partners in France, in another northern country, or in another southern country. Applicants must be under age 45. The deadline for applications (French, English) is 31 May 2016. Link
