Velux Stiftung — Sustainable and Integrative Forest Management

Velux Stiftung seeks solutions for adapting to or mitigating climate change, promoting biodiversity, and providing resilient ecosystem services while supplying sustainable forest products. Proposals can be for an implementation-oriented research project that has a high potential to foster change in practice. Projects dealing with all types of forests: boreal, temperate, tropical, and subtropical forests are welcome. Projects may last from 1 to 4 years. Funding of up to CHF100 thousand per year is available. At least one partner needs to be from a university or a research institution. The deadline for proposals is 23 September 2024. Details here

Science Foundation Ireland — Funding to Develop Sustainable Solutions

The SDG Challenge seeks to support teams to develop transformative, sustainable solutions that will contribute to addressing development challenges under the UN SDGs in countries where Irish Aid works. Solutions address SDG 2: Zero Hunger, “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture”. Applicants to the program can request up to €300 thousand over 18- months. One or more teams may be provided with follow-on funding from the prize fund of up to €1 million. Eligibility extends to collaborative and equitable partnerships between researchers in Ireland and a partner country. The application deadline is 08 October 2024. SDG Challenge

U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation — Hurricane Response Marine Debris Removal

The U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) supports projects to assess, remove, and dispose of marine debris in and around coastal communities impacted by hurricanes and other episodic storm events. Eligible projects will reduce marine debris from coastal habitats and nearshore waters of coastal counties in Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina impacted by the 2022 hurricanes Fiona, Ian, Nicole, and Typhoon Merbok. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, government agencies, for-profit organizations, and educational institutions. The Fund will award approximately US$6 million in grants. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Jamaica

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Jamaica. CFLI provides funding to projects that create income-earning opportunities for women (which may also include rural agricultural development), as well as environment, and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation. The average contribution is C$10 thousand to C$25 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national, or community-based organizations. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Algeria

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Algeria. The priorities under this call include women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, and investing in the poorest and most vulnerable (which may include agriculture or aquaculture projects), as well as environment, climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, and water management. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$30 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. ETH Zurich — Consolidation Grants

ETH Consolidation Grants provide grants up to CHF50 thousand to strengthen existing research collaborations. Consolidation Grants aim to encourage more advanced, solid projects between Switzerland and East Asia or the Southeast Asia region. The main applicant has to be a postdoctoral researcher, senior scientist, or professor of a Swiss federal and cantonal university. Applications are open until 15 June 2024. ETH Consolidation Grants

UK Royal Society — International Collaboration Awards

The International Collaboration Awards provide funding to enable research leaders in the UK to develop research collaborations with international partners. The grants are open to newly independent researchers ready to lead an international research program. Applications can apply to the Royal Society for up to £225 thousand over three years. Save Our Seas Foundation — Keystone Grants 2024

The Save Our Seas Foundation funds and supports marine and ocean research, conservation, and education projects worldwide. Projects have to focus on charismatic threatened wildlife and their habitats, with a particular concern for marine chondrichthyan species (sharks, rays, skates, sawfishes, and chimaeras). The usual project duration is limited to three years with a grant average of US$25 thousand per year. The next application period (Stage I) is 03 May 2024. Keystone Grants
