German Government — International Climate Initiative: Thematic Selection

The International Climate Initiative (IKI) funds climate projects that address pressing challenges in the areas of climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation. The funding amount provided by the German Government ranges from €5 million to €20 million per project. Applicants for funding must apply as a consortium. Nonprofit organizations, enterprises, universities,c and research institutions as well as international intergovernmental organizations are eligible. The selection procedure is done in two stages. Government of Switzerland — Renewable Energy Promotion in Developing Countries

The independent platform Renewable Energy, Energy and Resource Efficiency Promotion in Developing and Transition Countries (REPIC) supports projects in the field of renewable energies and/or energy efficiency and/or resource efficiency (waste, wastewater, and industrial processes). The project applicant has to be a Swiss organization (companies, NGOs, institutes, etc.) but the project target country must be a developing country. The maximum amount per project is CHF 150 thousand. Applications can be submitted at any time. Application procedure

Minor Foundation for Major Challenges — Public Awareness on Climate Change

The Minor Foundation for Major Challenges funds communication projects that mitigate anthropogenic climate change. Proposals should focus on influencing public opinion, providing inspiration, changing attitudes, spreading information, etc. The Foundation welcomes applications from all over the world. The Foundation makes small grants of up to €10 thousand and large grants ranging from €20 thousand to €200 thousand, although larger projects may be considered. Institute of Food Technologists — Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge

The Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge seeks game-changing innovations that will help transform the food system to be more sustainable and empower consumers to make choices that benefit both personal and planetary health. The Challenge will award up to eight US$25 thousand grants, up to three US$100 thousand grants, and up to two US$250 thousand grand prizes. Nonprofits or academic or research institutions located in any country and early-stage U.S.-based for-profit companies are eligible to apply. Individuals are not eligible to apply. Association of Commonwealth Universities — Climate Resilience Challenge Grants

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) awards Climate Resilience Challenge Grants to member universities to support initiatives addressing climate resilience. The grants can be used for a diverse range of projects, workshops, and events. Four grants of up to £2,500 each are available for ACU member universities to help meet the costs of organizing climate resilience projects. Enterprise Singapore — Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge 2024

The Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge invites industry partners and creative innovators to co-develop sustainable solutions in key areas such as sustainable materials, packaging, zero-waste, and more. Participants have the chance to collaborate with major partners and access funding to develop their solutions. Prizes include potential grant support (US$75 thousand from Hexagon Group), as well as funding and real-world testing facilitated by industry pioneers. The challenge is open to startups, small to medium enterprises, institutes of higher learning, and research institutes across the world. The application deadline is 27 January 2025. Details here

European Landowners’ Organization — Land and Soil Management Award

The Land and Soil Management Award rewards land use and soil management practices mitigating soil threats i.e. soil degradation, erosion, reduction of organic matter content, diffuse contamination, and compaction as well as the reduction of soil biodiversity, salinization, sealing, flooding, and landslides. The winning project receives €5 thousand. Eligibility extends to farmers, landowners, and groups of farmers, on their own or in collaboration with research institutes, universities, and/or private companies. Global Disaster Preparedness Center — Urban Climate Resilience

The Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) announces a small research grants program focused on the theme of climate resilience in urban areas. The initiative aims to deepen our understanding of urban climate resilience by supporting original research in low- and middle-income countries. The GDPC provides up to US$10 thousand in funding to university researchers. Applicants must be affiliated with an accredited university at the time of submission. Convergence — Asia Climate Solutions Design Grant

The Asia Climate Solutions (ACS) Design Grant awards grant funding for the design and launch of innovative blended finance solutions for climate transition and resilience in Asia. The grant will target critical climate mitigation and adaptation sectors in Asia including nature-based solutions, clean energy transition, and sustainable cities and infrastructure. Feasibility study grants range between US$50 thousand to US$200 thousand. Proof-of-concept grants range between US$200 thousand to US$400 thousand. WIN WIN Gothenburg Sustainability Award — Award in Leadership

The WIN WIN Gothenburg Sustainability Award invites nominations to recognize leaders who dare to confront problematic structures and systems driving sustainable transformation in global development and serve as powerful role models. The nominees will have created change that inspires others and shown what measures are necessary. Candidates for the WIN WIN Award compete for SEK 1 million. Candidates for the WIN WIN Youth Award (between the ages of 13 and 29) compete for SEK 50 thousand. Any organization, movement, business, group of people, or individual can be nominated.
