Early-career conference grants support emerging academics so they can take part in conferences that can have a profound impact on their teaching and research. This year’s grants are being offered for both virtual (online) and in-person conferences. Virtual conference grants cover the conference registration fee of up to £600 and a data grant of £50 for applicants who do not have reliable access to Wi-Fi. In-person conference grants are a maximum of £2,000 to cover conference registration fees, flights, accommodation and other travel related costs. UK Government — Manufacturing Pollution in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia
The Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) Program calls for concepts for research and development projects that address manufacturing pollution in the textiles sector. The program has an investment fund of up to £20 million to be disbursed over a 5 year period with up to £5 million for this call. Eligibility extends to NGOs, UK-based non-profit organizations, companies, and educational institutions. Priority will be given to projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. The deadline for submitting applications is 14 December 2022. Link to SMEP
King Baudouin Foundation — Enterprises for SDGs
The Business Partnership Facility (BPF) awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and €200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. Eligible countries include several from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa (full list of eligible countries is provided in the call). Partnerships must comprise actors from the private sector, civil society, academia and/or the public sector, with at least one organization from the for-profit private sector. Leading House Africa — Seasonal Schools for African PhD Students
Leading House Africa seeks to promote research cooperation between Swiss and African PhD students of higher education institutions in seasonal schools. Leading House seeks Seasonal Schools in Switzerland to sponsor African participants for a PhD graduate program. Eligible applicants are organizers of seasonal schools (e.g. summer schools) in or outside of Switzerland affiliation to a Swiss Institution of Higher Education. UNESCO — Green and Accessible Cities
UNESCO and partners invite participants to contribute their ideas on how to make cities more accessible and sustainable through innovative environmental friendly approaches. Participants are invited to carry out urban design projects or conduct research studies and submit original papers. The competition is open to university students worldwide. 100,000 Strong in the Americas — Cacao for Peace Innovation Fund
The Cacao for Peace Innovation Fund Grant Competition is designed to create and implement new student/faculty exchange and training programs in areas related to the cocoa value chain. Proposals must propose a research project focused on the cacao sector. The Innovation Fund intends to award up to eight grants of US$25 thousand. Greater Mekong Subregion Secretariat — Agriculture and Food Security Program
The Greater Mekong Subregion Secretariat invites applications for demonstration pilots of innovative technologies to supply safe and climate-friendly agri-food products in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam. Proposed demonstration projects should not exceed US$100 thousand. Government departments, civil society organizations, private companies, universities and research institutes can apply. U.S. Government — International Exchange Grant Program
The Office of Private Sector Exchange (BridgeUSA) announces an open competition for the administration of the 2023 BridgeUSA STEM Scholarship Fund. The Office plans to issue one cooperative agreement of approximately US$260 thousand to implement the program. U.S. public and private non-profit organizations may submit proposals to provide approximately 50 scholarships to foreign university students, scholars, and professionals across Africa, East Asia and Pacific, and Western Hemisphere regions. Global Development Network — Strengthening Research Capacities in Africa
The Global Development Network (GDN) aims to strengthen African social science research institutions and boost the production of research by young researchers. Research institutions can receive funding of up to €100 thousand for capacity building activities in support of young researchers. Eligibility extends to francophone African research institutions on national and regional public policies in the political, social and economic fields. EuroMarine — School on Ocean Transformation
EuroMarine launches a call for proposals to host the inaugural EuroMarine School on Ocean Transformation. The School is an opportunity to host a training workshop that will equip attendees with new knowledge to address ocean challenges and should address one or more of the key priorities and challenges in marine science. The maximum budget available is €25 thousand. Proposals should involve at least three full Member Organizations of EuroMarine, from at least two different countries.
