International Research & Exchanges Board — Community Solutions Program

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) seeks applications for its Community Solutions Program (CSP) with the aim to improve communities by addressing issues related to the environment, among others. The Community Solutions Program is a year-long professional development program with a four-month fellowship in the United States. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 26 and 39 (as of 01 January 2025). Eligible countries from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe, East Asia and the Pacific, South and Central Asia, and Latin America are listed in the announcement. Free Rivers Fund — Free-Flowing Rivers

The Free Rivers Fund announces grants to support initiatives and actions in defense of free-flowing rivers. The Fund provides grants for activist and conservation groups that commit to the fight to protect rivers from dams and development. The total amount of funding is not fixed but depends on the total incoming donations. Generally, supported grantees can expect between €1000 and €2000. The application deadline is 10 January 2025. Embassy of Japan — Grants for Grassroots Projects in Uganda

The Embassy of Japan in Uganda provides financial assistance to non-profit, development-oriented organizations in support of community development projects in Uganda. Any projects geared towards grassroots assistance are eligible for financing, including water and sanitation, disaster relief, and agricultural development. The grant amount per project is generally under 10 million yen (approx. US$100 thousand). Potential recipients are international or local NGOs, community-based organizations, educational institutions, and local governments. The Embassy receives concept papers anytime throughout the year, but the selection process is conducted twice a year with deadlines on 15 February and 31 July. More about this opportunity

Free Rivers Fund — Emergency Grant

The Free Rivers Fund collects donations from adventure sports companies and distributes funds to conservation groups. The idea is to give financial support to those who spend their free time protecting rivers from being dammed. The Free Rivers Fund offers emergency grants to help initiatives that have just formed in order to prevent a dam. Applications for emergency support can be submitted anytime. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — Mountain Future Award

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites institutions and individuals to submit proposals for transformative mountain projects. Projects must focus on the significant challenges mountain areas face today, including food insecurity, climate change impact, biodiversity loss, poverty, and loss of traditional knowledge. Winning projects will receive seed funding of US$5,000 and project incubation assistance. New projects and projects in the initial planning stages are eligible; ongoing projects are not. Catholic Relief Services — International Development c

The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) invites individuals dedicated to a career in international relief & development work to apply for the International Development Fellows Program. Fellows receive training and support CRS’ work in various sectors such as agriculture/livelihoods, health, water and sanitation, emergency response, or micro-financing. The Catholic Relief Services offers 20-30 fellowships each year. Each fellow is placed in one of CRS’ overseas country programs for a 12-month fellowship. ProBleu — Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems

The ProBleu funding initiative supports primary and secondary schools as essential champions in educating children and youth about blue sustainability and the safeguarding of marine and freshwater ecosystems. The call is open to primary and secondary-level schools in the EU Member States and associated countries. Schools can apply for up to €10 thousand for water & ocean literacy projects that last up to a year. The application deadline is  21 November 2024. Link to ProBleu

Imagine H2O — Accelerator Program 2025

Imagine H2O seeks innovative water solutions from anywhere in the world. Any company offering solutions for water access, safety, resilience, or efficiency is welcome to apply. Selected candidates will have access to a network of industry executives, experts, and entrepreneurs and showcase their ideas during a week-long boot camp at the Water Innovation Week. Participants will receive cash awards and in-kind donations from strategic partners. The deadline for applications is 14 December 2024. Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago — Grants for Grassroots Projects

The Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago provides financial assistance in the fields of basic human needs (agriculture, medical and health care, public welfare, and the environment), human resource development (education, research, training), and basic economic infrastructure. The Embassy supports projects proposed by NGOs, schools, hospitals, and local government authorities in 9 Caribbean countries. International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis — Young Scientists Summer Program 2025

IIASA invites doctoral students worldwide to participate in its Young Scientists Summer Program held at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis’s headquarters in Laxenburg, Austria. The selected participants work with IIASA’s senior scientists in research on energy, ecosystem services, water, risk policy and vulnerability, and other topics. Scholarships are available from IIASA’s national member organizations. A limited number of scholarships are available from other sources.
