East-West Center — Pacific Islands Leadership Program

The East-West Center welcomes applications for the Pacific Islands Leadership Program with Taiwan to enhance the leadership capacities of young leaders in the Pacific Islands. Participants will spend approximately two months at the East-West Center’s campus in Hawaii, in addition to a month in Taipei at the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs. The curriculum includes topics in climate change and environmental stewardship, among others. Eligibility extends to early and mid-careers professionals in the Cook Islands, Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. University of Bergen — PhD Courses on Sustainable Development

The Bergen Summer Research School offers parallel short courses for PhD students and young researchers on themes of urgent societal problems focusing on the transition to sustainability. The courses will focus on key global challenges, including socio-economic inequality, psychological and social science perspectives on climate change, and the sustainable development of life below water. Stipends to participate in the course are available for qualified individuals who are currently enrolled for studies and carrying out research in a list of eligible developing countries. World Water Council — World Water Prize 2022

The World Water Council invites applications for the 2022 King Hassan II Great World Water Prize. The prize is intended for projects that focus on the management and development of water resources. For this edition, the theme chosen is “Water security in territories for sustainable development and food security.” The Prize will be awarded for the sixth time during the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar, Senegal. Nominations can be for a person, a group of persons, or an organization. The Prize can be awarded for either an enduring work, or the performance of an outstanding one-off achievement. Ashoka — Fellowship Mexico, Central America, Caribbean

The Ashoka Fellowship selects social entrepreneurs with high impact and systems change projects in Mexico, Central American and Caribbean countries. Ashoka seeks projects with innovative strategies, methods, or new approaches to address opportunities and problems. Initiatives need to solve a problem at the root level and have the potential to generate geographically scaled impact. Applications have to be submitted by 16 October 2021. Ashoka Fellowship

PES Latam Alliance — Support for Social Entrepreneurs in Latin America

PES Latam Alliance supports social entrepreneurs in Latin America to accelerate their impact in the region. The Bridge for Billions program seeks social businesses with innovative solutions working to improve the lives of the most vulnerable. Selected social enterprises will be able to access up to US$50 thousand of seed capital, support through courses and events, training with alliance partners, and a community of entrepreneurs. The applicants must be a registered hybrid or for-profit business and must have been operating (selling product/service) for at least a year. German Academic Exchange Service — Postdoc Program in Research on Climate Change in Africa

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) seeks African researchers for a new postdoc program in application-oriented research on climate change. The program supports capacity building and collaborative research activities in the following areas: Agriculture, Land Use, Biodiversity, Food Security, Marine Science, Energy, Water Security, Woodland and Forest Sustainability. The fellowship consists of a flat-rate travel allowance, research funding of up to €10 thousand, and a monthly allowance of €800. The fellowship awards are for a period of 12 to 24 months. European Commission — Sustainable Water and Natural Resources Management and Protection

The European Union Rural Development Program aims to improve agricultural production, management of natural resources, and promote sustainable and efficient use of water in Tajikistan. The goal is to enable inclusive growth and resilience to extreme climate conditions in rural communities and to improve livelihood in rural areas. The overall amount made available under this call is €15 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. Lead applicants not established in Tajikistan must act together with at least two co-applicants established in Tajikistan. The deadline for the submission of concept notes is 20 November 2021. International Association of Horticultural Producers — World Green City Awards

The AIPH World Green City Awards competition recognizes the role of city authorities in promoting and supporting greater inclusion of nature and plants in urban environments. The award is open to city governments and local authorities around the world. The submission must be made by the local authority governing the city – such as the Mayor’s or executive officer’s office. Cities receive an award certificate and a trophy, as well as global recognition and profiling opportunities. All entries will need to be submitted online before 14 March 2022. Green City Awards

Famae — Sustainable Innovations Challenge

The company Famae seeks innovative and concrete solutions to fight against climate change, everywhere in the world, around waste, water, food, habitat, energy and mobility. Solutions should be pragmatic, efficient, durable, and money-saving to make life easier for urban citizens while reducing their environmental footprint. Individuals, teams, businesses, government entities, universities and organizations are eligible to apply. The maximum award is €1 million which may be allocated to a single exceptional project to cover the production of a prototype. Applications will be accepted until 15 October 2021. BRICS STI Framework Programme — Call for Research and Development Projects

The BRICS STI Framework Programme calls for proposals to promote research cooperation among partner institutions in Brazil, China, India, Russia, and South Africa. Project proposals should consist of partners in at least three BRICS countries for research on preventing and monitoring natural disasters; water resources and pollution management; new and renewable energy; and other themes.
