Society for International Development — Andrew E. Rice Award 2019
The Andrew E. Rice Award for Leadership and Innovation recognizes the achievements of an exceptional young professional working in the field of international development. Past winners include field research on agriculture strategies and the creation of low-cost digital games that inspire social change. Candidates must be between 22 to 32 years old and have at least two years of experience in international development in developing countries. The winner will receive US$1,000. Grassroots Justice Prize — Legal Empowerment for Communities
The Grassroots Justice Prize recognizes grassroots institutions across the globe that are working to put the power of law into people’s hands. Three awards, each of US$10 thousand, are available to non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and public institutions that focus on legal empowerment to tackle poverty, injustice, or other social problems. Securing Water for Food seeks master-level students or master-level graduates to act as field evaluators to conduct in-country, field research with SWFF in Ethiopia, India, Uganda, Bangladesh or South Africa. SWFF is looking for candidates that have the skills and interest in gathering qualitative and quantitative data from farmers and other stakeholders in emerging market economies. Selected applicants will receive a roundtrip airfare to and from the country of destination, a stipend of US$2,500 to cover trip expenses and another US$2,500 payment after submission of final deliverables. European Union — Danube Transnational Programme
The EU’s Danube Transnational Programme offers financial support to transnational projects contributing to the development of the Danube region. The Programme covers 9 EU member states and 5 non-member states (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine). Themes include water management, flood prevention, natural heritage, energy, among others. The duration of projects must not exceed 30 months with available funds varying according to priority area. The lead applicant must be an international or private non-profit organizations. Project partners can be private enterprises. Project partners must co-finance a minimum of 15% of total project costs. Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation — Young People for Development
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) seek innovative projects run by young people in the 16–35 age group which aim to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged communities in developing countries. The ‘Together we’re better’ competition sponsors current and planned initiatives run by young people that help advance global sustainable development and fight poverty. Prizes in five categories range from CHF 4 to 10 thousand. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification — “Land for Life” Award 2019
The UNCCD presents the “Land for Life” Award for inspiring efforts in land conservation and management. Eligibility is open to individuals and institutions worldwide that are making a significant and innovative contribution to reduce the impacts of land degradation and desertification. In particular, the focus is on helping communities at risk or forced to abandon their homes due to insecurity deriving from environmental degradation. Award winners will receive a support package from the UNCCD Secretariat to include networking with interested organizations; assistance to promote the winning initiatives nationally and internationally; and opportunities to showcase them at national and international events. National Geographic Society — Himalayan Climate Change
The National Geographic Society seeks research, conservation, and storytelling proposals to advance understanding of environmental and societal changes measured in the Himalayas. NatGeo is especially interested in projects that directly monitor or examine changing temperatures, ice volume or extent, and water pathways, or that examine impacts on at-risk downstream populations. The Department of Science and Technology (India) and the National Technological Innovation Authority (Israel) announce the 4th India-Israel Technological Innovation Fund. The objective of this programme is to respond to the global issues concerning science & technology for the water, energy and agricultural sector while developing technologies that can be commercialized and localized within 2 years.
