IOM and partners announce a call for applications to participate in the youth entrepreneurship pitching event “Start and Scale-up for SDGs”. The event will take place in Geneva (Switzerland) on 15 November 2018 as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Young entrepreneurs from around the world are invited to pitch business ideas that contribute to at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A selected panel of impact investors, sustainable finance specialists and other experts will then provide comprehensive feedback on the submissions. U.S. Department of State — Study/Research Award 2019-2020
The Study/Research Awards are a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The program is designed for applicants interested in designing their own projects in various areas of study (possibly within the thematic areas of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens. Program requirements vary by country, so the applicants should familiarize themselves with the program summary for the host country. Each candidate is required to be affiliated with a local institution of higher education, a research/training institute, a think tank, or a registered NGO. AAUW’s International Fellowship program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States. Award amounts range from US$ 18-30 thousand for one year of study. To be eligible for an International Fellowship, applicants must have citizenship in a country other than the U.S. and intend to return to her home country to pursue a professional career. The OneAfricanChild Foundation and Peace First support projects from young social entrepreneurs (13-25 years) in the themes of education, environment, gender equality, social inclusion, health, and technology. International Women’s Media Foundation — African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative
The IWMF created the African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative (AGLRI) to provide training and support for female in-country journalists from the Central African Republic, Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The aim is to provide necessary funding to independent journalists to cover under-reported issues including issues of empowerment, democracy, food security, and conservation efforts. Australian Government — Direct Aid Program Africa
The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2018/2019. DAP supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of agriculture; water and sanitation; environment/conservation; and others. The High Commission accepts project proposals from Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Gambia, Niger and Nigeria. Funding of up to AUD60 thousand is available to community groups, NGOs, private sector entities, academic institutions, or other organisations engaged in development activities on a not-for-profit basis. World Academy of Sciences — Postgraduate Fellowships in Natural Sciences in Pakistan
The TWAS-CIIT Fellowship Programme offers fellowships to young scientists from developing countries who wish to obtain all or part of their PhD in natural sciences. CIIT will provide a monthly stipend which should be used to cover living costs such as food, accommodation, and health insurance. APEC Climate Center — Climate Change Training Program
The APEC Climate Center (APCC) accepts applications for a training program with the subject of user-oriented statistical downscaling of climate change scenarios for agriculture and water resources to be held in Korea (15-20 October 2018). The 1-week training program aims to provide information and technical support for better regional planning and reduction of economic losses caused by adverse climate conditions. Scientists and working level staff from national research institutes in agriculture and/or water-related fields in developing countries, preferably APEC economies, are invited to apply. Siemens Stiftung — Empowering People Award 2019
Siemens Stiftung sponsors the “empowering people. Award” as a means to identify and showcase relatively simple and smart technological solutions that have business potential to combat poverty in developing and emerging countries. The categories include water and waste water; energy; food and agriculture; waste management; and several others. The products or solutions to be submitted have to already be in use. The competition is open to any individual, team, organization, or enterprise from any region in the world. The top three prizes are €50 thousand, €30 thousand, and €20 thousand, respectively.
