The Global Landscapes Forum seeks professional or amateur photographers who show their perspective on the beauty and richness of the African continent. Photographers from all over the world can apply for the GLF Africa 2022 Photo Competition. The competition offers small cash prizes US$400 (1st place), US$300 (2nd place) and US$200 (popular vote). The SOS African Wildlife Initiative invites proposals for Rapid Action Grants targeting terrestrial or freshwater threatened species in South Africa. Rapid Action Grants are designed to enable immediate responses to threats linked to the COVID-19 crisis and its consequences. Civil Society Organizations and public entities are eligible to apply. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) makes large grants in support of biodiversity conservation in Indonesia with focus on the “Wallacea Biodiversity Hotspot.” Grants are in support of community-based sustainable small-scale fisheries, protection and conservation of endangered marine species, marine protected areas management, and activities that promote improved marine and coastal ecosystems. This call is for large grants of up to US$75 thousand. Eligibility for grants extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society applicants. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers 12 reporting grants to support the production of in-depth stories that will call attention to critical environmental issues in the Pacific region. ENJ expects at least six stories with focus on ocean issues, such as efforts and solutions to protect the ocean, ways to increase ocean’s resilience to climate change and regulate sustainable use of its resources. The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Tunisia. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$50 thousand per project (in exceptional cases, CFLI may grant up to C$100 thousand). The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) launches an introductory biodiversity course for journalists – “From Microbes to Rainforests”. The online course is self-paced and designed to help journalists reporting on biodiversity to better understand the most pressing issues, from conservation to climate change to synthetic biology. The Oak Foundation makes grants in several thematic areas, including Environment. Oak’s grants in the sub-theme of marine conservation focus on industrial fishing, small-scale fisheries, and plastics pollution. The Foundation also makes grants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in North America, Europe, and some emerging economies, e.g., Brazil, China, and India. The Foundation’s sub-theme on illegal wildlife trade aims to conserve populations of African elephants and rhinos by curbing their illegal hunting and trade. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks to sustainably commercialize non-timber forest products in order to increase alternative income sources, improve natural resource management practices in Zimbabwe. The overall aim of this activity is to improve the resilience of vulnerable and marginalized communities (particularly women and youth). USAID will support both agricultural and environmental objectives that would positively impact climate change adaptation, sustainable forestry, biodiversity protection, and the mitigation of human-wildlife conflict.
