Association of Zoos and Aquariums — Conservation Grants Fund 2022
The AZA’s Conservation Grants Fund makes grants for animal health; animal welfare; conservation education; field conservation and/or reintroduction; management and/or breeding; and research. The principal investigator in a grants application must be an AZA member. Many grants are awarded to collaborations among AZA-accredited institutions; government wildlife agencies; academia; and conservation NGOs. European Commission — Consolidator Grants
The European Commission provides Consolidator Grants to experienced researchers with a scientific track record. ERC Grants support projects carried out by an individual researcher who can employ researchers of any nationality as team members. Applications can be made in any field of research. Proposed research projects under this program must be conducted in a public or private research organization located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. The Lawrence Foundation makes grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations for projects in environment, human services, and other themes. KU Leuven — PhD Scholarships for Students from the Global South
KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers 10 PhD scholarships to candidates from developing countries. The university offers sandwich scholarships, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, as well as full-time research at KU Leuven (4 years). The scholarships are offered to proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. University of California — Animal Law and Policy
The UCLA Animal Law and Policy Program advances animal protection through reliable, impactful research, effective law and policy reform, and training in practical legal tools. The program funds new empirical research in a wide variety of fields (from behavioral economics to law to moral psychology). UCLA anticipates funding approximately five to seven individual projects with a suggested total budget in the range of US$1,000 to US$4,500. Scholars and researchers affiliated with an accredited academic institution of higher learning in the United States may apply. However, UCLA accepts applications from and relating to other countries, as long as the principal investigator is based at a US university. European Commission — Biodiversity in Outermost Regions
The European Commission (EC) announces a call for proposals to finance small grants for biodiversity conservation and restoration action in the EU outermost regions and overseas countries located in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Amazon, Pacific, Polar and Subpolar and Micronesian regions. The available overall budget is €32 million. In order to be eligible, the applicants must be legal entities, be established in EU Member States or overseas countries and territories and be active in the areas of nature conservation and climate change. National Geographic Society — Buffett Awards for Conservation Leadership in Africa and Latin America 2022
The National Geographic Society, in partnership with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, welcomes nominations for the 2022 Buffett Awards for Leadership in Conservation. There is one annual award for Africa, and another for Latin America. The awards honor the achievements of conservation leaders in these two regions, and support their ongoing work with grants of US$25 thousand. The deadline for nominations is 17 January 2022. Fondation Ensemble — Sustainable Development and Conservation 2022
Fondation Ensemble supports field projects in sustainable development and conservation. The Foundation’s focus areas are sustainable agriculture, sustainable fishing, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable technologies. The eligible countries for all supported sectors are Ecuador, Peru, Laos, Myanmar. Mozambique is only eligible for sustainable fishing projects, European countries are only eligible for rewilding projects, and Madagascar is only eligible for marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable fishing projects.
