The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur announces a competition for organizations to submit applications to implement a series of bootcamp programs on youth empowerment and leadership for members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in higher education institutions throughout Malaysia. The organization will receive up to US$100 thousand for the implementation of several workshops (min. 2 days each) aimed at participants ages 18-35 years. Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa Foundation, in partnership with Enel Foundation, invites applications for the two weeks advanced training course “Deployment of renewable energy solutions: challenges and opportunities” (Italy, November 2019). Biodiversity Revisited — Essay Competition

Biodiversity Revisited seeks applications for an early career essay competition. Early-career researchers are invited to share their view on biodiversity conservation or develop a provocative idea on how biodiversity research and practice can be improved. The essays submitted will be part of the discussions at the international Biodiversity Revisited Symposium taking place in Austria (September 2019). Council for the Advancement of Science Writing — New Horizons Travel Fellowships 2019

The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing offers travel fellowships to cover the cost of attending the annual New Horizons in Science briefing for journalists. The annual conference brings together top-rank scientists and leading science reporters for an in-depth look at seminal developments in science. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in the day-long professional workshops sponsored by the National Association of Science Writers. The maximum reimbursement provided is $1,200. United Nations — International Conference: Space-based Solutions for Disaster Management in Africa

The International Conference UN-SPIDER aims to contribute to the use of big space data approaches and satellite-based applications in Africa to respond to challenges posed by natural hazards. UN-SPIDER invites applications to participate in the conference, which will take place in Bonn (Germany). Only a very limited number of scholarships (round-trip ticket, room and board expenses during the duration of the event) will be available to participants. Thomson Reuters Foundation — Reporting Land Rights Training for Indian Journalists

The Thomson Reuters Foundation seeks participants for a four-day workshop on reporting land rights in New Delhi, India (6-9 August 2019). Journalists with outstanding story ideas on property rights will receive training, editorial support and limited funding to help them realize their stories. The program will cover airfare, lodging, and subsistence for Indian journalists from outside Delhi. Eligibility extends to journalists working for domestic media (print, radio, TV, online). SEARCA and FSC — Summer School in Agriculture and Food Systems

The Summer School “Transformative Changes in Agriculture and Food Systems”, jointly organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Food Security Center (FSC) of the University of Hohenheim in Germany, will take place in Laguna, Philippines (9-27 September 2019). The FSC will offer up to 16 scholarships for PhD students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to participate in the course. Earth Journalism Network — Environmental Data Journalism Workshop for Indonesian Journalists

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and Resource Watch seek applications from Indonesian journalists for a workshop in Jakarta (26 and 27 August 2019). Participants will learn how to discover, use and visualize open data in their environmental reporting. Journalists should be based in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, or Bekasi and have a record of reporting on scientific, environmental, natural resource management and/or infrastructural development topics.
