Global Biodiversity Information Facility — Ebbe Nielsen Challenge 2025

The GBIF Ebbe Nielsen Challenge is an annual competition that seeks to inspire innovative applications of open-access biodiversity data. In 2025, the Challenge will award a total of €20 thousand for advancements in open science that feature tools and techniques that improve the access, usefulness, and quality of open biodiversity data. The Challenge is open worldwide to individuals, teams of individuals, companies and their employees, and governmental agencies and their employees. Het X-Y Actiefonds — Grassroots Actions

Het X-Y Actiefonds makes small grants for grassroots actions across a range of thematic areas, including ecology (environment). It supports politically controversial projects that do not easily find financial aid elsewhere. Examples of supported activities include demonstrations, blockades, occupations, direct actions, revolts, revolutions, and other confrontational action. Grants are a maximum of €3 thousand. ClimateCare — Emission Reduction and Removal Projects

ClimateCare finances available to scale work in nature-based projects and energy projects. Partnership applications are open to proposals for carbon projects at all stages of development seeking finance and development support to deliver emissions reductions and improve lives. ClimateCare offers access to finance, technical expertise and access to key market insights. Partners receive support for running on-the-ground project activities that deliver impacts on biodiversity, health and livelihoods. Only partners with projects of a certain size qualify for partnership. Interested applicants can submit a proposal for consideration anytime. Further information here

Royal Geographical Society — Grants with Deadlines in February 2025

The RGS-IBG offers a number of grants for graduate and post-graduate geography research in an international context. Grants range from £250 to £30 thousand. Many awards are restricted to nationals of the UK and EU, and/or students at UK universities. The Small Research Grants, the Henrietta Hutton Research Grant, the Monica Cole Research Grants, the Frederick Soddy Postgraduate Award, and the Frederick Soddy Schools Award close on 03 February 2025. Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund — Grants in Support of Endangered and Critically Endangered Species

The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund makes grants to individuals, communities, and organizations for the conservation of threatened or poorly known animal, plant, and fungi species worldwide. The Fund uses the IUCN Red List as the primary guide to the conservation status of a given species, although documented variations for sub-species, distinct populations, and subpopulations will be taken into account. Grants are up to US$25 thousand. Applications must be submitted in English. The next application deadlines are 28 February, 30 June, and 31 October 2025. Know more

Sigma Awards — Prize for Data Journalism

The Sigma Awards invite entries of published work in all areas of data journalism, including the topic environment. The winners will split a cash prize of US$5 thousand. Entries must be for work published in 2024, but can be submitted by large or small newsrooms as well as individuals from all over the world. The application deadline is 28 February 2025. World Academy of Sciences — Young Scientists Award for Frontier Science

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) recognizes the scientific achievements of young scientists living and working in a developing country. The third edition of the TWAS-CAS award will recognize achievements in Earth Sciences. The award is worth US$10 thousand. TWAS invites nominations from science academies, national research councils, universities, and scientific institutions. Self-nominations will not be considered. Panthera — Grants for Research and Conservation of Wild Cats 2025

Panthera makes grants for research and conservation of the world’s populations of wild cats. The Small Cat Action Fund (up to US$15 thousand) supports in situ conservation and research on many of the world’s 31 small cat species. The Winston Cobb Memorial Fellowship (US$10 thousand) is made to an exceptional early-career conservationist to undertake a field-based internship for training and experience on a wild cat conservation project selected by Panthera. American Association of Zoo Veterinarians — International Grants for Conference Participation 2025

The American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) provides financial aid to zoo and wildlife veterinarians from outside of the USA to participate in the AAZV’s annual conferences. Preference is given to applicants from developing countries with demonstrable financial needs and focused educational/ conservation goals. Grants are normally up to US$2 thousand. Food 4 Future — Food Tech Innovation Awards

The Food Tech Innovation Awards 2025 recognize the most innovative proposals that offer a disruptive approach to Customer Experience or Management. The award has 6 categories: digitalization award for the food and beverage industry; best sustainability project; healthy food; the best innovation project for the packaging industry; the most innovative food tech startup; and the best automation and robotics solution. The FoodTech Innovation Awards are open to all companies, universities, business schools, researchers, journalists, and start-ups from all over the world.
